Quite possibly. We saw in S4 he did something to make the Smoke Monster come. Whether or not he has complete control is another thing entirely.

I think he learned the ability to SUMMON smokey, but I don’t think he has control. THe smoke monster existed before Dharma (according to the latest SPECIAL ACCESS feature w/ Carlton and Damon) and there is a SONIC fense that protects those within it from Smokey. So, I think it can exists without Ben’s control, but I think Ben found a way to summon it.

I think the smoke-monster can be summonsed(whatever ben did) and contained(sonar fence), but Ben definitely doesn’t have complete control over it, per his warning to everyone that they need to get the hell out of there before Smokie attacks Keamie and co.
