Then, to get acquainted with the "stable time zone" that the island is now in, the people who went from the plane to the island experienced one last shift so that they are in the time of the island. Think of the island as its own world, and once you go from the real world to the island world, you must shift and join the situation that is present on it, that now being the 70s DHARMA period. Perhaps the on-island shifting stopped with Locke’s wheel turn.
