Why Only Jack, Kate and Hurley Flashed Back in Time

Although it hasn’t been confirmed, it seems most people are thinking that Jack, Kate and Hurley are the only ones that flashed back in time to the 1970’s, while Sun and Sayid are with the Locke and Ben in the present time.

I think one of the reasons is that the writers want to keep Jin and Sun separated for a little while longer until we end up with a Desmond/Penny type reunion. But this of course does not sit to well when it comes to the actual story of Lost so how about this …

Remember the list back in season 2 only certain people were on? I think Ben mentions this list was given to him by Jacob. Well Jack, Kate and Hurley were all on this list, while Sayid and Sun were not.

Coincidence? Maybe, but if the 05 are indeed in different times, it could be a possible explanation as to why.

I could be confusing lists but I thought there was a list that Micheal has in which he has to bring back 4 survivors in exchange for Walt …

    - Jack Shephard
    - Kate Austen
    - Hugo Reyes
    - James Ford

After searching Lostpedia it looks like it’s Bea Klugh’s list.

There were several lists. I’m going to check and get back with the answer.

    Jacob’s List:

In “I Do”, Danny Pickett mentioned that “Shephard wasn’t even on Jacob’s list”.

In “Par Avion”, Mikhail states that Kate is not on the list because she is “flawed”; Sayid is not on the list because he is “weak and frightened”; and Locke is not on the list because he is angry.

BUT, Take a look at THIS list:

    Bea Klugh’s List:

In “Exposé” in a flashback from November 9, 2004, Ben discussed a plan to abduct Jack, Kate and Sawyer using Michael. The plan was related to convince Jack to perform medical treatment on Ben.

Much later in time, Ms. Klugh gave a list of four survivors to Michael. She threatened that if he didn’t return with those specific survivors (and no others), he would never see Walt again. The people on the list were:

    Jack Shephard
    Kate Austen
    Hugo Reyes
    James Ford

The group was ambushed at the capsule dump by the Others before reaching their settlement, and then taken by force to the Pala Ferry pier. Walt was released to Michael, and the two were given a boat and compass heading to leave the Island. Hurley was released and sent back to the survivors’ camp, and the other three were taken to the Hydra.

Jack was on the list because the Others needed him as a doctor for Ben, and Kate and Sawyer were included to persuade Jack to do the surgery.

Hurley was only on the list so he could be sent back with a message in “Live Together, Die Alone”. In the post-finale podcast, the producers confirmed that Hurley was on the list because the Others thought he was the best candidate to deliver the message.

This list seemed to be created for a specific purpose and seemed to be unrelated to the other lists mentioned.

So maybe there is more to this list?

just wanted to leave a quick comment, do we know that everyone is not in the same time? the 316 crash is on the smaller island and jack and co seem to have been flashed to the main island, therefore they could be in the same time (1970’s) just in a different place.

We don’t know what happened to Sun and Sayid. Everyone seems to think that Sun is the woman who ran off with Frank but that’s far from confirmed. I think Sun and Sayid flashed to the ’70s but just ended up in a different place. We haven’t seen Jack, Kate and Hurley really go anywhere other than where they flashed to so Sun and Sayid could be unconscious on the other side of the road for all we know.

Yes, this is only a theory that needs to be considered IF indeed the O5 got split up, which has not been confirmed.

Although in next weeks preview, there is a shot of Sun and Ben in the same frame which would point to Sun being in the present time with Ben and Locke.

It’s all speculation at this point.

There is evidence that they are in different time zones:

the fueselage from Ajira 316 seems to have skidded down the runway Sawyer and Kate helped build in S3. (that’s why Lapidus was on the plane - he’s probably still working for Widmore.) That can’t be the 1970’s because the runway hadn’t been built yet. It can’t be the 70’s because Dharma would have come running. Caeser said to Locke everyone “vanished” right before his eyes - otherwise they would be with Locke and Ben and the other people now congregating on the beach. They vanished because they got sucked into a time flash - and if you take it to the next step - doesn’t that mean somebody/something on the island caused another electromagnetic event similar to Sept 22, 2004? So much is still up in the air.

The list that Michael was given is not the Jacob list. We’ve never seen the Jacob list.

I think this is an excellent point, I do not feel the list in that episode in season 2 is Jacobs list. I think it was Ben’s list and designed to accomplish the specific task of getting him “fixed up”. I feel strongly that Kate, and Jack both have issues that would prevent them from being on the “good guy” list.
