He sends Goodwin to the tail end because he probably is told by Julieete that hes te one responsible of killing him blah blah....however this now in my eyes doesn't make Ben a bad person but someone that isn't trying to interfere with the time line....he seems cold because nothings a shock to him but he knows he has to stick to the path....ie always having a plan. this could also be the reason for Bens emotional instability because imagine that no matter what, you knew you had to do things a certain way even if every fibre in your body told you not to do something you knew for the greater good you had to. eg watch your daughter die. I think these 2 were just people he could rely on to get him the information and blend in with the survivors. Surely he'd remember Jin seen as though he seems to have lived with him for 3 years so far.
