It makes me think maybe Faraday flashed that moment during the flashing sequences and happened to look at his watch. Did you notice that the machines in that scene sounded like the smoke monster? Since some people have suggested that the "whispers" and possibly the smoke monster are visible fragments of the time travellers, that would fit together. Yeah that was strange.
