Actually, maybe it IS Taweret. There are some depcitions in which she is holding ankhs (I'm certainly no Egyptology expert), like this one:
http://www.zw1840.com/egypt/god/animal.htm
Look at the last image on the page.

She also apparently does often bare her teeth, and is often depicted with an elongated snout. And she often has that tiny little crown as our statue does. And the ears do kind of look more like a hippo's ears than a crocodile's ears. : D

Who knows?

I think the bummer is that we're not going to hear from the producers for a few months...so the ABC website's "Episode Recap" about the show isn't going to get confirmed or denied for a few months if they even decide to go there. (As I hope it's not another Libby-type of situation.)

comfirmed? confirmed by you.......and joe...so it just let amy have a baby? bc i think the statue was destroyed already in the 70's....and of course were going to say well the body is like this...and that....bc it says taweret was never depicted with the body of a human...so i think it would be pretty shitty if the producers used her

Hi everyone, great response so far! This website is great i'm a first timer here.lost4life that is the pic i was talking about, do you agree its similar to the smoke monster hieroglyph in the temple where it judged Ben?

tqbrady i would have to change my initial theory and agree with yours, the description of Sobek makes a lot more sense with the 'goings on' on the island and also what Jacob is doing. He wasnt actually doing anything inthe finaleto kate, Sawyer etc he just met them and 'nudged them along'.

I also think another big point being missed is the fact Jacob gives choice. maybe this is something to do with humans having free will? He said to Ben and Hurley 'they had a choice', he even said to Hurley 'you don't have to do anything you don't want to'. What could this all mean? Maybe he is a God and cant directly influence people, if this ruleis true then it would explain why the adversary needed a human to kill Jacob, TADA you have your loophole!

So damn interesting and we have so long to speculate haha!

I do have a picture of Taweret holding two ankhs in the same position as the statue. She also has quite an elongated mouth and the small ears and hair similar to the statue

Anubis has the head of a dog. Sobek has a head of a crocodile. They are rival gods. If you look at any picture of Sobek it is 100% the same statue on LOST. They used to the exact same depiction down to the last detail. ABC must have messed up their description.

The head does indeed seem to resemble Tarawet, but as Thorn has pointed out, the statue is holding something. Mythology suggests these were held by Anubis, god of the dead.

yo dude, thanks for that, very interesting! guess we will have to wait untill next year 2 find out for sure, thats if the statue is even in next season? pregnancy thing makes sense and also the snake as smokie is very much like one apart from it floats in mid air, lol. but hey i dont think they will have everything spot on, somethings will be slightly different and we the viewers will have 2 come to our own conclusions!

I'm pretty sure the statue wasn't Tawaret. She wasn't holding an ankh in the pictures I've seen, but the statue in Lost was. Plus the statue in Lost looks more like Anubis.

Thanks for the info about Tawerete. I agree with you in part but since Jacob lives in the foot it makes sense to me that he is Apep wanting to be close to his mate. Evil is charming and tricks others into trusting him. Even though he spoke kind words to most of our losties (but not Ben), his actions could be construed as promoting the negative events in their lives.
