The Purge

I was wondering if the Purge instead of being cold blooded murder was actually euthanasia? Maybe after the incident the DI all became ill as they aren’t protected by the islands healing powers that the others seem to enjoy. I know the Purge doesn’t happen for another 15 years or so. cMaybe that is enough time to realize there is no saving the DI’s from there illness.

That’s a terrific thought. Quite possible that after the Incident takes some of Dharma’s best minds (Chang) the rest of the scientists just languish, unable to leave, until Ben puts them out of their misery!

Hmmm… I donno… that wouldn’t really fit Ben’s character… and I do think that chilling scene with his father was out and out cold blooded murder.

an idea that came to me about the purge was maybe all the losties end up stuck in 77 and live with richard and all until ben decides to get rid of everyone and causes the purge maybe giving his 77 self future info just a thought

  4. Angus, no matter which way you look at it, Ben killed or euthanized Dharma. It is very reminiscent of what happened in World War II.

We are led to believe he did this for selfish reasons, but perhaps there is far more to this story.

Thanks for bringing up a very good point!

Unfortunately the young Ben old Ben sharing consciousness does not seem to be playing out. I would have loved that.

Dabs, there is indeed another way to look at it. Ben and the Others were possibly not responsible for the purge at all. Check out my Truth About the Purge theory.

  7. Angus, here is another bit of food for thought, that I have considered about ‘the purge’.

We are now viewing a potential threat in 1977 with ‘the incident’, occurring. Presumably, most of Dharma were removed from ‘the island’, for safety reasons.

This is something I find quite perplexing in terms if ‘the purge’, which supposedly happens, many years later.

If Dharma were still around at this time, clearly whatever ‘the incident’ was/is was not sufficient enough to kill them off, including ‘the others’.

I believe we are either still missing information, or something is about to change these events, and re-write history. Regardless, of what that may be.

I was just trying to think outside the box. I don’t know if it’s true or not but Ben did say that it was not his decision to kill them all. It was a pretty bad scene he had with his dad in the van.
