I’ve been rewatching season 1 and have just finished 13 “Hearts and Minds” and have some questions about Boone’s hallucination of the smoke monster and Shannon’s death.

I thought that Boone hallucinated because Locke puts that glue stuff into a cut on Boones head which makes him hallucinate
I guess the point I’m getting at is that Boone’s hallucination of the smoke monster was very accurate for someone hadn’t encountered it before. I think if it was just all an hallucination the writers would have made some obvious references and not made it so much like the real smoke monster.
If Locke has a ‘connection’ to the island which is being really heavily foreshadowed in a lot of things he has said up to this point, isn’t it possible that his meeting with the monster has somehow given him the ability to call on the smoke monster to do certain things. We know that the smoke monster can definitely appear as others (Yemi). Would Locke have left it up to an unpredictable hallucination to bring Boone to the understanding that Locke needed him to be at? or is it plausible that Locke set up the drugging as way to cover the actual encounter Boone had with the smoke monster – gets away with it with no questions. Locke gets what he wants exactly. I just think we’ve accepted the obvious answer to the event and Lost very rarely leaves it at the obvious answer.
