Why is everyone convinced so and so is so and so ad infinitum?

OK, i see the MIB Locke thing. Clearly the writers intended that, which I am sure will be explained in season 6, what I don’t get is why people now think everyone is someone else…

Ive heard Christian is so and so
Jacob is so and so
Faraday is so and so
Alpert is so and so
Smokey is so and so

I don’t get it? and I’m not trying to be rude or mean.

I don’t see any evidence that anyone other than season 5 Locke is someone else.

I think Christian is Christian, Jacob is Jacob, smokey is just plain old smokey doing his job, and Faraday is simply Faraday.

I will say one thing.
Jack might be someone else… an annoying bastage! lol.

Clearly, when the writers want us to know something… they will tell us… right before the screen goes black, Lost pops up and we exclaim in collective unity…”awe man, i have to wait till next week?”
it is fun tho isn’t it?

seriously, not trying to spoil anyone’s fun or say anyone is stupid. I just don’t see the evidence.

on a side note….
does anyone find it funny Sawyer got down and dirty with all three woman on the island that Jack had the first shot at? Kate, then Anna Lucia (not that there was much of a romance brewing there) and finally Juliette. I find this extremely funny. Just goes to show… woman always pick the jerk before considering the alternative? whats up with that ladies??? I don’t blame you though, Jack does not leave much to the decision making process, but that’s just Jack.
And Kate, clearly deserves Sawyer, the only man not dumb enough to fall for her evil ways, lol. Which is why I like Sawyer. He does not pretend to be anything other than what he is.

One of the mysteries of the Island has been what is responsible for generating the vivions of dead people that our beloved characters have been having. One of the sources of the visions has been the Smoke Monster itself. The first confirmation of this comes towards the end of the episode “The Cost of Living” (I believe that’s the right one) just before Eko is killed by Smokey. Eko was talking to a vision of his dead brother Yemi and when Eko would not repent for his sins the vision says to Eko “You speak to me as if I’m you brother.” Eko chases after this vision and instead finds Smokey. Producers later confirmed that the vision of Yemi was in fact the Smoke Monster and hinted at the fact that other visions on the Island were manifestations of the Monster. If you go back through the past seasons you will notice that the majority of the visions people have are of dead people (Christian, Yemi, Alex, and now Locke). The only exception to this has been Hurley’s visions of Dave (who never existed in the first place), and Walt ( who it has been hinted at has some sot of special powers). What everybody on this site have been theorizing about is who or what is responsible for these manifestations.

  2. Thats funny Achalli, I got my wife hooked on Lost and we are watching through it all, The last episode we watched this morning was The cost of living… which came after I had posted this.

I had read something about Eko not repenting, and so it was very cool to watch this episode again. I am in agreement too about the smoke monster causing the visions. I found a link to the “whisper transcripts” on lostpedia, can be found here: http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Whisper_transcripts

Those are Very interesting. I wonder if the whispers are caused by smokey.

Another interesting thing i noticed, which i have to go back and look up in the beginning is…
I have seen two times now where the smoke monster drags someone away, we have all heard that bubbley kind of noise it makes when it is moving, but… then it seems like right after it takes someone you hear this kind of horn or whale noise. I first noticed it in season 5 when Jin is traveling I think with the french team, that guy gets dragged down and they all hold him, and then his arm gets ripped off. Anyways, right after the guy goes down the whole, and just before he yells back its ok its gone now, you hear the noise way off in the distance. Then i noticed it with Mr Eko in the cost of living. I know I have heard that noise a ton, the reason I bring it up and the thing i wanted to check was I thought I heard that sound in the Pilot or the first few episodes, and if the noise is there, then who did the smoke monster take at that point?

  3. I also was wondering something about the cost of living episode… at least I am pretty sure it is that one, if not the one before it… One of the others dies, it is the one Sun shoots on the yacht before escaping.

Anyways I wonder if there is anything to her funeral. They set her on a raft, put her in the ocean and then cremate the corpse.

Is this to keep her from “haunting” the island? Or appearing?

I don’t really think there is much to this but I couldn’t help pondering it for a few.

Holdem you bring up a good point there about the Others’ funeral. That makes a lot of sense considering what we know now. As to the sound Smokey makes (to me it sounds like a cross between a siren and a wolf’s howl) it has been made during virtually every appearance of the Smoke Monster. You are correct that it is heard in the Pilot. It is as prevalent as the clicking noise Smokey makes when he scans someone. I’ve come to think that Smokey makes that sound as a warning in the same way that a dog growles or a cat hisses. When you rewatch episodes that feature Smokey, take note that that siren like howl is usually made at the begining of the counter and at the end. If we take the security system description of the Smoke Monster literally it may mean that the system is now armed and active or has become inactive. I believe that the producers once said that the sound is based on a sound heard in the game Half Life.

  5. I like that… armed/disarmed. seems totally logical… for an illogical show, lmao.
