Does anyone have any thoughts on the use of Libby by Jacob, MIB, the island, etc.
I have the feeling she was visited in the mental ward, possibly by Jacob, and put to use to assist in the arrival of Flight 815 to the island.
Could she have been use by Jacob to, among other things, to give Desmond that final “push” that he needed to end up on the island, to play the pivotal role in the arrival of 815?

hmm, yeah destination you could have a point with libby? most of our losties have met before the island. but libby has a connection with hurley and desmond? the connection with desmond is quite a significant one isnt it?
somebody has said something before though about libby not returning to the show in its final season? so if this is right we may not find out anything further on libby? unless the writers do answer our questions but not using libby herself or something?
i for one would love to know just what libby was doing in the mental home with hurley? she could have had a breakdown after her husband died? she looked off her rocker though didnt she? just like lenard, totally crazy? when i saw that i remember being totally shocked.
lets hope the libby storey is gona be explained a little more in season 6. you could be on to something with des though? as it is a little strange how he ended up with libbys boat and it being widmores race around the world isnt it? eko rocks

I always wondered if “Dave”, Hurley’s imaginary friend, was also Libby’s husband that died. When Libby meets Desmond at the coffee shop, she tells him her husband’s name was David. Just a coincidence? I do hope they explain more about her, it almost seems like they just forgot about Libby.

The writers have said many times that the Libby story will not be explained, which really bugs me too. I understand that the actress who plays Libby, Cynthia Watros, doesn’t want to be in the show anymore. That’s all well and good, it’s her choice (but as an aside, is she nuts or something???). Anyway, they could spend about 5 minutes with Hurley or some other character explaining what happened, and what her connection to Desmond/Hurley/Flight 815/the mental institution is, and be done with it. I for one agree that maybe she went loco after her husband died, and she’s not really a clinical psychologist like she says in the first season. She kind of took on that persona after getting out of the mental hospital.

Carlton Cuse in an interview I saw on some Italian website said that the Libby story will not be told. He said it would not be consistent with the way Lost tells the stories to have another character explain her story. Unless he’s lying (not the 1st time) you’ll just have to imagine what other connections Libby has other than what we’ve already been shown.

Yeah I think Libby will be important, hopefully not just a filler. It’s a little too coincidental that she lent Desmond the boat, was in the same ward as Hurley, and then happened to end up on a magic island with both of them…

If I remember correctly, Cynthia Watros was going to be in more than just ‘Meet Kevin Johnson’ during season 4. However the writers strike put an end to that and now she isn’t interesting in playing Libby again. Although I haven’t read any interviews of her saying that. They could probably tell that story with 9 minutes of air time for Cynthia, but, with just 12 hours left in the show, loose ends are being jetisoned fast and furious.

Libby’s husband, Dave, was on the balcony when Hurley collapsed it.
Overwhelmed by the loss, she had a breakdown.
Dave, now deceased, was watching over his grief-stricken wife Libby. He notices that Hurley can see him and decides to simultaneously ruin Hurley’s life, manipulating him at every turn to eat horrible food, throw out his medication, and even escape the hospital.
Now on the Island and miraculously crossing paths again, Dave sees Libby and his own murderer falling for each other. What does he do? He tries to get Hurley to kill himself. Why does Libby give Hurley such a disturbing look when Hurley’s back is turned? He just described her dead husband to him.
I’ve had this theory for years but recently Cuse/Lindelof announced that Libby was in Santa Rosa because her husband Dave had died. Previously they have denied that Dave and Libby’s husband Dave were one in the same, but that was before they came to terms with the impossibility of finishing the storyline. I think in due time this backstory will be shared with the public.
