If it takes people a few days to walk across it... I would say that the harmful gasses dissipated before reaching every corner of the island. It's like when the police send tear gas into the Kwik-E-mart, Best Buy across the street isn't gassed out too. If anything, I would've been more concerned with Ben and The Others removing their masks and walking freely thoughout the DI compound immediately after. Seems like there would've been some residual poison left on their clothes. Why am I answering this with so much detail? I hardly ever post.
