Season 6 approach, Charles Whidmore, US military on the island

I kind of always thought season six would pick up where season five left off after the bomb explodes in the hatch. Oceanic 815 lands safely in LAX as if nothing ever happened. But i think it would be cool if season six began as sort of a prequal, beginning long ago with the others and then the dharma initiative and then the crash of 815, sort of explaining everything through time, like a history lesson. What do you think?

And I also have another question… i have always been intrigued by Charles Whidmore, espicially as a young man. Did we ever find out how he got involved with the island? I know he was in the US military, but how did he go from military to being the leader of the others, and why is it so important to him that he finds the island again? Did Charles Whidmore turn the frozen donkey wheel to move the island? How did the US military find out about the island? Did they build the jughead? Why did they build it? Why did they leave the island? Were they using the island for nuclear testing without realizing its “magical properties” or were the magical properties a result of the nuclear testing?

He was not a part of the U.S. Military. He was only pretending. But what are his origins. I’m betting that he came from off island as a young boy. I also would like to know more about the Frozen donkey Wheel. Surely someone else has turned. I fear that with the way the writers have decided to go, that many of our questions on history will go unanswered.

Charles is a ? . Both he and Ms. Hawking have accents, so we know they (like all other known leaders) come from off-island. My starting questions about him are:

How did he get ON the island (like yours)?

How did he get so rich? (esp. if ‘others’ didn’t get off-island until purge). Did he take some of his ‘island knowledge’ to the military/Hanso?

Is HE tied to Juliette coming to the island to fix the maternity problem? (Lots of the Dharma stuff comes from Widmore industries … interesting options if true)

Is he a MIB/Jacob follower*? His means seem a bit crueler than even Ben’s (who said they didn’t kill innocents - and didn’t when it came to baby Alex). WRT Alex, didn’t he say something like “Jacob” wanted Rousseau dead and Ben reply something about if “the isalnd” wanted it then Widmore woulda’ done it. (*Could Jacob or MIB be ‘the island’ and MIB is who they THINK is Jacob … like in the cabin … and MIB wants to protect the island while Jacob wants to do his experiment?)

I’m not sure he was IN the military (vs. wearing some old Jughead guy’s clothes) - but I do think if this is good/evil, I’d put him in evil even if that puts poor misguided Ben in the good one).

Oh gotcha… I must have either forgotten or not picked up on the fact that he was pretending to be in the military. So was he always an Other then?

waycurious- are you saying that maybe Whidmore is working for either MIB or Jacob and Ben is working for the other? Do they both think they are doing what “the island” wants or what is best for the island? I really want to know why Whidmore is SO determined to find the island that he doesn’t care how many people get in his way. And thats another thing, how did he get his money?? I think there should be an episode that focus’s on Whidmore, like they do for the main characters, that shows flashbacks into his past.
