Why is it so hard to believe there are two or more Lockes? Time travel creates "multiples". For example: One Locke is in 1954, another one is born two years later. Each one with different conciousness. One Locke is in the coffin the other one got an advice from Richard to kill himself.
What if one of these Lockes figured out how to break his loop and somehow ended up on the island the same time or before the Ajira plane crashed?
Though I have to say the discussion about the "loophole" is what makes things difficult about this theory.

here is one issue i have with flocke being locke. the discussion he has with jacob before jacob is stabbed, he uses the same wording and style as nemesis/MIB. just because locke is more in tune with the island doesn't mean he would know jacob and MIB's conversations.

Hey AK. I can categorically say they are not living out events simultaneously but in different time periods. (But I feel your pain! ;) )

Thanks for reading and answering... I don't know I just thought about this today and figured I'd get it out there. After watching the last episode of last Season, I said to my wife - holy crap, that dude took over Locke's body... And my wife turned to me and said, no... that's still Locke... I said how can that be?

And so we went back and fourth like that and I was convinced that she was completely LOST! But now I'm not so sure... I would really like to Know more about the rules of burial on that Island, because when you think about it there seems to be an awful lot of emphasis put on burial scene's. I mean we all can come up with a ton of them that we viewed over the years...

Your Casimir explanation makes sense, I believe that plays a part in the end but I agree, I no longer believe that this MIB dude has "body snatched " Locke. (which by the way is a great analogy)

They have made time travel credible enough to us to sink our teeth into, I'm not sure I believe that people or smoke monster's can take over bodies though.

One more thought. If Jack & Co. are living in 1977 & Locke/Ben/Sun are in 2007, and they are both on the island at the same time, how could that be so? I mean I know they are living in different times, but they are experiencing the events in real time - almost like when Sawyer/Juliet/Jin/Locke were shifting through time - they lived in 1952 for a little while, but came back to the present and continued on that timeline, they didn't go back a half to when they left or at least it didn't seeem so. What if everything that ever happened on the Island is always happening at the same time?

Okay I gotta quit, I can't keep my eyes open... thank again for the comments and feedback.

Ardent very good..... however if your theory about care of the dead...would we not have a bunch of Dharma folk walking about considering they were just dumped in a hole.....Okay okay we have Hoarce telling John about the cabin.....but that seems like a perfect ploy by MIB to lead Locke just where he wants him.....great theory however too many holes needed to bury them all ( pun intended )

It probably is the Casimir Effect that caused two Locke's to be present on the island (one dead, one walking around)

BUT, What if the reason for two Locke's being on the island is simple. Flashing Locke did not leave until "FLOCKE" has Richard tell him to do so. Now he may have left in the past but when Richard told Locke he must leave and die, that was the present.

Flashing Locke leaves and comes back on Ajira, "FLOCKE" has been on the island all along!

I agree and disagree with bits of this. I completely agree that Flocke is just Locke, but I’m not sure about the better versions of dead people, I feel it’s a bit more fantasy than sci-fi. But you have really made me think, along with Dab’s comment about not having been shown how there are 2 Lockes yet. We have. In the Orchid orientation film, something happens with a casimir effect experiment, something changes in the alternate timeline and poof 2 bunnies in different spots. They’ve shown us that the electromagnetic properties of the island don’t always work the way expected and can result in 2 bunnies or 2 Lockes. The show has also sown us that smokie can appear as a vision of a dead person, I think you a right with the burial bit – Christian, yemi and Alex weren’t buried. BUT we haven’t been shown any case of it becoming the physical embodiment of a person where they can interact and touch stuff for an extended period of time. There is more evidence in the show that Flocke is another Locke (like the 2 bunnies) rather than it being a body snatcher type situation.

Ok. One Locke is dead. The other not. Most people are figuring "New Locke" is "Flocke" who manipulates real Lock to die by telling himself to so that MiB can take his place. But there are 2 of them. So, how about this...

Locke is told he has to die by Richard who is told by his future self (who people think is Flocke but isn't), who in turn was told by Christian "You have to die, that's why it's called sacrifice", etc.

Whoever Christian is or represents, what if part of the reasons why John had to die was to be a catalyst to bring everyone back, but the other big part was that you couldn't have 2 versions of him roaming the island. Besides the fact that would end up WAY too much like a cheesy Star Trek TOS episode with Shatner v. Shatner, they (people playing "the game") were better off with the "New & Improved" Locke 2.0 who has been spun off of the new timeline created with Ajira's sending the Losties back to the 70s. (See my theory for clarification on that bit.)

Ardent Knight, some plausible thoughts here, although I don't agree with everything you have mentioned.

In terms of Locke, we have not been provided with the 'how and the 'why' there are two Lockes yet.

One is dead and the other Locke is presumed to be Nemesis, but we have not been provided with how Nemesis was able to duplicate Locke's body. It's especially hard to believe when you see a dead Locke in the box rolled out onto the beach.

It is possible as some seem to believe that the smoke monster is responsible for taking Locke's form, but I suspect it is something deeper than this.

The emphasis made by Locke throughout the show is hard to ignore. The repeated references to black and white. The two different coloured eyes, etc. The 'duality' theme has been highlighted all along.

I think it is plausible that there just might be two Lockes. Hard to wrap ones brain around it at present, but it's hardly not out of the realm of Lost.
