The Box metaphore and cats

So we are deep in discussion about Schrodinger’s cat in a box. Loved that Juliet could be the human equivalent. I can think of a few uses of that image in “Lost”.

Ben asks Locke to imagine a box. In this box you can have anything you wish for. “No John, the box was just a metaphore” he later says. But nevertheless John’s father appears in that box.

For that matter John works for a box company.

Christian was shipped in a pine box and somehow got out. Was he ever actually dead or alive? Or both depending on your reality?

This image returns in season 5 with the very dead John Locke in a similar box, acting as Christian’s proxy. Same result. Dead alive or both? Also, why do Ilana and Brahm have to carry him around in such a large box? Couldn’t a blanket have served the same purpose and been lighter to carry around? Are the writers deliberately keeping the metaphore alive?

Can anyone else think of any other box imagery?

Good one. But no references to Cat food as part of the drops…

Another possible nickname for Kate would be Kat…

if somebody said the word box to you, the connatations that you think of are a brown, cardboard cube, not much to look at of the outside. However, a box can hold any number of fantastic and varying objects but you don’t know what they are until you open the box and find out whats inside.

maybe the island itself is the box, possibly pandora’s box and when you discover the secrets of the island (ie. when you open the box), all hell will break loose! maybe thats the reason that the others try to keep the island hidden from the outside world because bad things may happen if the island’s secret isn’t contained?

Cat reference! Sayid is tortured by the husband of a woman he once interrogated. She tells him a rather lengthy story about children harming a cat. There is a mysterious cat in the episode… Could one of the children been a future German physicist whose name sounds like a piano playing peanuts character?
