If the timeline splinters creating two alt timelines then in the timeline we've seen - everything is the same and all the kids are born.

In the other timeline - where Juliet never goes back in time - can't we assume Ethan isn't born? Also - little Charlotte and Miles might have never left the island. Time travel hurts my brain.

I wonder if in the alt timeline where certain kids aren't born - certain other kids are born....if Kate and Jack are meant to be together - would they end up having a kid? Maybe Hurley and Libby? Would Anna Lucia have tried again?

Tas: I suppose Sun might have ended up leaving Jin once they get to LA - so again - no Ji Yeon.

But the stuff with Ethan happened before 1977. if there is a timeline splinter, it would only break off from when the bomb went off (if that is what caused it) only stuff after that point in time would be different, anything before still happened. I do agree, if the kids were meant to be, the universe will make it happen. I think the one kid in trouble is Ji Yeon, I can see that without the island her existance shouldn't have happened.

Interesting idea - that if those kids were "meant" to be born - life would find a way for it to happen.

OTHER CHILDREN - If 815 doesn't crash:

Ethan isn't delivered by Juliet - and would have died. Actually - if it weren't for Juliet and Sawyer, his mother would have died - and therefore he wouldn't have been born. It looks like maybe he wasn't ever supposed to be alive - but if that were true you'd think he just would have died as child.

Alex: Guess she would still be alive.

Anybody else?

ScrollLocke, this is an awesome question! You are absolutely right. What might this mean for some of the children.

One thought that I have is, we may see via an alternate how Aaron might still end up with his Grandmother, or, something completely different.

We may see that Sun and Jin resolve their infertility problems through other methods. I think there is enough room for the story-line to accommodate some of the issues with the children, logically.

My biggest question is, what does this mean for young Charlie, Desmond & Penny...I suppose this could also be covered off with a reasonable explanation.

Walt was special prior to #815, however would he remain special under different circumstances.

I agree that 'the children' are the way of the future, and something every parent would have to consider, especially based upon their own experiences.

I wonder how this might all change.

Great thoughts!
