Finding the Loophole, Breaking the Rules, Kicking into Fire

“Do you have any idea how badly I want to kill you?” Obviously, for whatever reason, Nemesis is unable to kill Jacob by his own hands at that time (on the beach in the 1800’s). Assuming Flocke is Nemesis, he is still unable to kill Jacob in 2007, as he has Ben do it for him (although the uncertainty of who actually killed Jacob is strange, with Flocke kicking Jacob into the fire.. more on this below). I do not believe that it is as simple as Nemesis not being able to kill Jacob. If it were as simple as needing someone else to do it, why go through all the trouble over decades and decades of time to have it all lead up to having Ben do it? Was there no other person Nemesis could have convinced to do it? I think the loophole is in reference to how Nemesis is able to kill Jacob using someone else as a proxy but also without causing some sort of time paradox. Nemesis is not allowed to kill Jacob because if he does it may cause some sort of time paradox. Sort of running into a dead-end here, writing as I’m thinking it out, but I do not think it is as simple and plain as “he’s just not allowed to kill him, it has to be someone else”.

About the “kicking into the fire” thing.. Perhaps upon learning that “they’re coming” (AFTER Ben stabbed Jacob), Nemesis realized that killing Jacob himself at that point made no difference. Once Ajira crashed and Flocke began mixing with the passengers, he asked for the passenger manifest many, many times. He needed to know where the Losties were. “They’re coming” must be in reference to the Losties, transported from Ajira to 1977, the ones Flocke was looking for via the manifest.

  2. Inquisitor, I really like your explanation on this. In particular, what you have to say about the time paradox and why Jacob and Nemesis can’t kill one another.

Great ‘catch’ on the Passenger Manifest too. I also thought this might be why he was asking for it.

    Nice work!

I agree too. And i think that does not only apply to jacob and MIB. There are way too many guns jamming all over the series.

Remember when Jack pulled the trigger while standing over Locke? Okay, no ammo, but still is interesting how it’s the whole Jack/Locke dichotomy summed up like that..
