There was a random picture of a modern Car Dashboard/speedometer. They didn't look like that until at least the late 80's. And your right about the music. This form of brainwashing is used by the US military today and probably has for awhile. Loud noise of any kind is used to put your brain into a submissive learning state. It picks up still and quiet things looking for solice since everything is so loud and noisy. Hence the messages. The military did have a presence on the island. However this was inside of a Dharma facility, so unless the military and Dharma worked together at some point which wouldn't be far fetched as the guy, i forget his name, the one who pushed the button before Desmond did was in the military yet on the island as well performing Dharma acts of pushing the button. As far as the connection between Jacob and the DI, Ive always thought that they were brought to the island like our Losties were. They had a lot of good qualities about them (trying to help mankind, respecting their fellow man) but I think like all the people that Jacob brings, they became corrupt and some were more concerned about exploiting the island. Radzinski and the blacksuited Swan folk were a good example of this. Jacob brought them there to do good and be a shining example of what man can be. But in the end their own nature/greed, or maybe even a little manipulation from the MIB, turned the whole thing south.
