Timeline

Sept. 22, 2004 +101 days=January 02, 2005 + the time they faked getting to another island and being rescued from it.
If they are off the island for three years, then shouldn’t flight 316 have taken place in 2008?
Or is it because of the special island properties that the dates don’t add up

Hi. I am an uber Lost fan. Admittedly, I jumped on the bandwagon a little late, halfway through the third season but thanks to the DVD's I am all caught up and do frequent re-watches. BTW my new image reflects my love/hate relationship with Lost. I always feel like I am on the verge of blowing up at the end of every episode because when I think I finally figured it out, nope the rug is pulled out.

  1. It is mostly derived from the 3 years later and 30 years later stuff. Sawyer and company flashed to 1974. That has been given. Then the text says 3 years later, so that must be 1977, and I think that is also stated. Then they flash 30 years later, so that must be 2007. either way there is no time thing going on.

  2. we really are. I almost deleted my post because i’m starting to feel horrible about my comment….

I really do enjoy your other posts cocoadoll! This one just caught me off guard and i got all sarcastic ‘n crap before i could stop myself 🙁

  3. I catch your drift…even Lostpedia…uncanon btw, lol, has it listed at 2008 as well…it got brought up last year and forgot…I couldnt see how it could be anything to do with the story…but its possible. Maybe a mistake on the writers part. Most of the island time was in december…I truly wasnt aware of the date in terms of what month they were rescued.

It could very well have something to do with the lie.
They were ANNOUNCED possibly as rescued then…but wasnt it still December when the island disappeared…maybe thats the “3year” difference…

OH…5 stars for asking a good question…minus 4 and a half for not liking the American Office
    ;]

  4. ok people, here it is:

September 22nd, 2004 is the crash date.

September has 9 days left in it.

    October has 31 days

    November has 30 days

    December has 31 days

    9+31+30+31=101

101 days after the crash was December 31st, 2004.

Nothiggn to see here folks, move it along.

  5. It was 108 days, I remember that because 108 is the same number as how many minutes between button pushes at The Hatch.

I just checked Lostpedia and it says they were rescued 108 days later, on January 7th, 2005.

    🙂

  6. True, Lostpedia isn’t canon but that doesn’t mean that the stuff you read there isn’t canon. It’s just stuff that Lostpedia says that isn’t specifically from the show (like the theories) that isn’t canon.

  7. Sorry, don’t mean to sidetrack anyone, but what the hell does “canon” mean? Is it like credibility? I’m anxious to learn all your ultra mega-cool theorist lingo here.

  8. Things that are canon are definitely part of the show/story. Things that aren’t canon are not actually included in the story… like fan fiction and some of the comic-con stuff…

  9. They left the island on day 101.

They were fake “rescued” on day 108.

The island flashed (which is what we’re are talking about here, we’re talking about when the island flashed) on day 101. Which was on December 31st. Which was still in 2004…i’m just getting this from Lostpedia aswell, i’m not sure why i’m the only one who knows this, it’s right there on the page….lol

  10. I thought the whole point of this post was asking why it’s 2007 and not 2008 on island where Sun and co. are.

Even if it was December 31st 2004 when the island flashed, it’ll be January 1st 2005 the day after.

We don’t even know if it’s exactly 3 years. It didn’t look Christmassy when they took Flight 316.

  11. Yes. I also thought that the post was asking why they had landed in 2007 and not 2008….and my answer remains the same: because the day the island started to flash through time was December 31st 2007. 2007. not 2008. and so they flashed back to 2007. If we want to get all Lostpedia technicalish they flashed back to July 22nd, 2007. Which makes even less sense.

  12. sorry i meant “because the day the island started to flash through time was December 31st 2004. 2004. not 2005. and so they flashed back to 2007.”

i’m regretting commenting on this theory immediatly.

  13. Where did the July 22, 2007 date come from? I didn’t see that date referenced in the Lostpedia article for the episode 316 or the article for Ajira Flight 316. I don’t remember hearing anyone on the show actually say “wow, this is what the island looks like in 2007″… I think the year was just speculation and that it was actually January 2008… The time on the island is December 2004 + however much time they spent off-island (around three years). The same time period (around three years) also corresponds to the amount of time between 1974 (when Sawyer and crew stopped flashing) and the appearance of Jack, Kate, etc…

    Right?

  14. Highbrow: i can’t remember where i read that LOL it was definitly somewhere on Lostpedia cause i don’t bother looking anywhere else. But i tried to go back to the timeline page i was looking at, and i can’t find it….If i remember it was some “could be true/could not be true/picked up by some old newspaper heading in the background” type thing. and i hate this thread to much to continue looking.

  15. trinity: the question was this: “why did the rest of flight 316 flash back to 2007 when the flight was in January of 2008 (courtesy of Lostpedia).”

and my answer is this “because the island started skipping through time in 2004. and they were taken back to 3 years after they left the island. 2007.”

i could be wrong. but thats my answer.

  16. Until I see something that says 2007 outside of a theory page (which is where the 2007 date originated… I’m pretty sure) I’m going to say that the plane crashed on January 22nd, 2008. Any other date would be completely arbitrary.

It really isn’t important anyway, is it?

  17. It sure isnt’ highbrow. considering Lostpedia says:

    A) The plane crash-landed on Hydra Island in 2007.

    B) Ajira Airways Flight 316 experiences a flash of light in the middle of the night in January of 2008

    C) In 2007, Ajira Airways Flight 316 departed from LAX in Los Angeles, California bound for Guam

I’d say hell no it isn’t important lol
