I’m not saying Ben is a good guy or anything.. I can’t stand him! But waycurious’ remark of the Sawyer/Cooper thing is exactly what I’m talking about.. How much choice is Jacob giving Ben by speaking to him with contempt when the man is holding a knife ready to kill him??

AES, you make an excellent point regarding Jacob knowing about Ben’s manipulations of him. No wonder his voice held such contempt.

I like that too Dabs…its easinly the most logical choice considering everything we saw.
If Jacob knows all, then he not only knows Ben used the isalnd…but Ben used JACOB himself to scare people into doing what they wanted.

Hi Inquisitor, you are absolutely correct about the ‘dichotomy’ between free will and fate. Jacob and Nemesis are diametrically opposed.

I also think your statements regarding the ‘end game’ are accurate in terms of how long this struggle has been occurring over the ‘time’ aspects.

I have one additional thought on the scenario of why Jacob speaks to Ben with some apparent contempt. Jacob is aware that Ben has manipulated ‘the island’ for selfish intent. Jacob’s tone seemed quite callous.

Waycurious, very nice catch on Sawyer and Cooper!

I agree with TawaretsAnkh here, Ben’s just not a good guy. Fair enough I do like him and I think he’s a great character but in no way does that make him one of the good guys.

Would the island let a good guy get Cancer? Fair enough Jack landed on the island and he just happened to be a spinal surgeon but was Jack supposed to help Ben?

Put it this way, Rose ties with Hurley in the nicest person on the island contest and she came to the island with Cancer and the island cured it.

Good catch on the Jacob healing Ben when he was younger thing, I’ve been thinking about that since I watched the episode where Richard takes a young Ben into the Temple. The Temple is a “safe place” for The Others, The Other do Jacobs bidding, so we would assume that Jacobs mystical healing powers have saved young Ben after he was shot by Sayid, we know he can do it, we saw him bring Locke back from the dead after Cooper pushed him out the window.

I actually think the “What about you?” is meant because I think Jacob is the one who “fixed” a young Ben when he was shot by Sayid.

Just my take…

Richard: Jacob, Young Ben needs help he is going to die…

Jacob: Ok, (poof…magic healing) Ben is fixed…

…thirty years later…

Ben: (boohoo) What about me?

Jacob: What about you?

Ok, maybe not like that…but you get the drift…
