Im pretty sure all the long term story line has been pretty much set in stone for a while, and they knew what they were going to do with the final season for quite some time. Like they said themselves, they arent stalling anymore. I think all the bad choices that these characters have made could more likely be called the first chance for their to been occurrences of an alternate timeline. When you think about it even further, the lockdown that caused Ben to not push the button was all started by a resupply lockdown. and who is in charge of those?? Widmore perhaps???
