“Fate”?

I dont understand how a bomb going off in 1977 on a “Magical Island” that cant be found by conventional means & to the average person doesnt even know it exists, anyways I find it hard to believe that the bomb going off in 1977 somehow changes the future for people like Shannon, Michael, & Walt.

The fact that they arent on the plane in the alt timeline leads me to believe that the Island not being there effects them directly in their lives somehow but Why? An How?

Or is it just easier to not show Michael & Walt cause you really cant have a young Walt on that flight due to he aged in Real time way too much to pass for a young Walt?????

    How about this.

You know how Jacob/the island loves to give people diseases (esp. cancer)

Well, in with the island all sunken, there was no need to have Walt (like there ever was) so the island didn’t kill his Mom and he still lives w/her

OR … she advanced her job w/Widmore in the original timeline, but Widmore drowned w/the island so had no Enterprises so she never went to Australia to advance her career and she and Michael and Walt lived together to this very day (though not in Portland).

As for Shannon … maybe her 1st boyfriend was really the kid Widmore fathered off-island (not Penny) and since Widmore died before fathering she met a nice guy with whom she lives to this very day (though not in Portland). [Poor guy.]

Shannon’s life pre 2004 was directly influenced by Jack, who was in turn influenced by Christian. If we assume Christian had something to do with the island, then the bomb impacting him would impact Jack. If he wasn’t so hard on him, or didn’t become an alcoholic then Jack would be very different. Shannon’s Dad was in a car accident where Sarah hit him. Jack chose to save Sarah (must fix the woman in distress). If in the new timeline Jack chose to save Shannon’s Dad, that would have implications for all of them, Shannon doesn’t need the money so the bad relationship would be different from what we’ve seen. Jack doesn’t go running so doesn’t meet Des, doesn’t marry Sarah, possibly doesn’t go to Thailand and get tattoos. It goes on and on and we could see some really huge changes. Anyone with any connection to anyone who had any connection to the island is going to be affected. So links with Christian, Widmore, Eloise, Richard, Ben… are going to be important. I don’t think we’ve been shown all of these connections yet

Ooooooh - good job Tas. Forgot about Jack/Shannon link. Just think. If he chose her dad over Sarah he’d never have become the golden boy (though he still thinks Locke could be fixed … ) She sure wouldn’t have married her.

The previous seasons did a good job linking characters - and we’ve been told this will be a lot like the 1st so maybe some will include the unlinking. We always knew it was no coincidence they were all on the same flight w/past references.

Wow, think of the cool season you could do on the ‘new mes’ as the dominos fall : (
