All of this is speculation but in my mind Desmond wouldn't have gone to the island because Widmore would have (most likely) died during the nuke on the island. This means there's no race around the world for Desmond to go on.

As for the rest of this, you all are making the assumption that since the island is underwater Jacob must be gone. This is most likely not the case. I hold the belief that this season is about showing us how course correction works. Showing us the alt. universe where something that wasn't supposed to happen happened and also showing us the timeline that consists of everything that is supposed to happen (the one with the island above water). I think that at some point in the season (probably sooner rather than later) these two timelines will merge at where the universe is finally able to course correct.

Anyways, the reason I said all of this, some of you might remember Abadon saying that he helps people get where they're supposed to be. We have always assumed that he was working for Widmore since he helps Locke in 'The Life and Death of Jeremy Benthem.' I would argue it's just as likely that he's working for Jacob (Just as Ilana and some of the Ajira Losties are) and it just so happens that Widmore's desires match that of Jacob's. In this case even with Widmore dead, Abadon would still visit Locke in the hospital and Jacob would still bring Locke back to life. Thus making it possible for all of the above to hold true.

The differences in the Swan hatch explosion aftermath could have been continuity errors; they couldnt probably fully replicate the original look of the site.

That being said, you have a good point with Desmond. Most of us are assuming that Desmond never made it the island in the new timeline, but what if his 'conscience" thing or whatever warped him prior to the swan explosion. But i'm going with continuity errors lol.

Here's another thought... If you notice the difference of the swan hatch after it impoldes when Desmond first turns the key compared to what we were shown last week - it seems to be a completely different aftermath! What if everything on the Island stayed the same during the alt universe all the way up to (or close to) the Alt. scenes we were shown. The course correction in the Alt. timeline made Desmond turn the key at a different time then we originally saw, and what we were shown last week was that course correction event - not the original turn key event. This would make sense and answer all these questions posted here.

Also people are forgetting the large ideas of fate and course correction in Lost. Perhaps john always went on the walkabout, with or without abbadon. hes not the only person in the world to hear about that sort of thing.

some people will say "well thats too big of a coincidence" but then have we been watching the same show? Where all the character's backstories are intertwined and have 1 degree of separation between themselves that they are unaware of.

You're all assuming that the bomb caused the island to sink. I think we've all learnt that you can't taken anything for granted on Lost. The island sinking and killing everyone in 1977 would have MASSIVE effects on lots of people, but what if the island sank later due to an event started by the bomb. You've then still got Widmore (and Abbadon) Eloise, DI, Jacob, smokie etc... still being able to impact their lives. I agree BiNG to have Locke paralysed and on a Walkabout for different reasons seems to be a bit too much of a coincidence.
I think we'll find out the island is underwater for a different reason to the bomb going off. (Plus after 30 years underwater the wooden cabins looked to be in pretty good nick.)

I really dont see how Locke being on that walkabout is totally pointless. An how is that not a spoiler??? I'm not looking at official comic con info & to assume that everyone knows this info just cause its online is kind of crazy. If I personally knew some inside info on the show & posted it on here would be a spoiler!

I simply put ideas that I thought of myself & try to contribute to other's post just on the information giving by the show & from how I perceive it but if its not a spoiler then why dont you just make a post telling all the info you've read about WHATS TO COME NEXT?

Do you know the definition of a Spoiler Xander???

"Spoiler-is slang for any element of any summary or description of any piece of fiction that reveals any plot element which will give away the outcome of a dramatic episode within the work of fiction, or the conclusion of the entire work. Because enjoyment of fiction sometimes depends upon the dramatic tension and suspense which arises within it, the external revelation of such plot elements can "spoil" the enjoyment that some consumers of the narrative would otherwise have experienced.

Thats from Wikipedia but im not trying to argue with you or anything but next time you comment on anything of mine keep in mind IM NOT reading Comic con posts or Podcasts & what the producers say so dont give ANY info regarding my questions or theories unless it is Original thought on your part Thanks & thats to everybody but I thought most knew that.

Sorry about the spoiler. Though technically it isn't a spoiler if the information is available to anyone with an Internet connection or had gone to comicon.
It was a short trailer shown at comicon which gave this info.

As for how Locke and others were effected...that doesn't ever need to be revealed. It is taken for granted. Mainly because the butterfly effect is well known as common knowledge these days. Look it up if you don't. But it does explain how Locke and others could be effected. It is a ripple in time. Anyways, that's my original thought based on basic knowledge of time theories. The Island sank after the electromagnetic energy was negated by the H bomb. My theory is that the electromagnetic pocket kept the Island afloat, therefore giving a possible explanation why the tides never seemed quite right. That is because it floats and isn't connected to the earth like an ordinary island. Once that happened, everyone on the Island died except the losties, because they were transported back to their timeline. All those people who died originally lived longer lives and effected other people's lives, and those people effected other people's lives, and so on. Think about it, if you introduced 2 of your best friends and they got married, had kids, and let's say you were on the Island when it sank. You would never introduce those 2 friends and they would never have kids. And those kids would never live the lives they were supposed to. It is like a chain reaction that in some way would effectthe characters. But obviously it didn't effect their fates too much because Jack's dad is still dead, Charlie is still a junkie, and Locke it still paralyzed.

The writers wouldn't bother filling you in on the details of how Locke ended up going on the walkabout anyway. It would be meticulous and pointless.
