‘Jacobs’ instructions were always coming from MIB…

OK first off i have posted a few theories which root from this idea, but i never seemed to gain much following, hopefully last nights confirmation of the link between Christian and MIB might sway some people.

When Locke was ‘introduced’ to Jacob in that Cabin, he encountered something that asked for his help, and then it proceeded to throw a tantrum.
The next time he visits Jacobs cabin, Christian is chilling in there, claiming to speak on Jacobs behalf.
Every instruction he gave John, stopping the losties from getting off the island, stopping the freighter from getting to it, moving the island, getting the oceanic 6 to come back, having to sacrifice himself supposedly came from Jacob and had to be done otherwise the island and everyone on it would be in grave danger.
Its now undeniable that these commands were not coming from Jacob. Everything John did to protect and serve ‘the island’ was infact to protect and serve ‘the monster’.

Now on to Ben. If Ben ever did infact see or speak to Jacob prior to Lockes encounter, wouldn’t it make sense that whoever it was wasn’t Jacob either? And the leader before Ben? and before that?
I think this misleading has been going on for a long time, Richard was not aware of it, otherwise why would he let it happen? This also leads me to believe that Richard hasn’t spoken directly to Jacob in a long time either, and maybe Jacob only speaks to the current leader.
I think the others have been blindly following Jacobs word, which hasn’t been coming from Jacob.

I believe that John was ‘claimed’ or ‘infected’ to some extent when he first met the Smoke monster, his crazy instant allegiance to the ‘the island’ is very reminiscent of Danielles crew after their first meeting with smokie. When he first saw it, he said he looked into the eye of the island and it was beautiful, but now knowing smokies opinion of the island and his plan to go home, to me it seems Locke was fooled.

Everything Locke did for ‘the island’, replace ‘the island’ with ‘the monster’, and it makes ALOT of sense. Whoever is coming to the island, is coming to stop MIB from fulfilling his plan of getting home, wherever that may be, so it would make sense that Locke would be trying to stop to people getting to the island.

Its also funny that the first time the others meet the losties in 1954, Locke tells Richard that he is the next leader of the others. Richards interest is sparked when Locke mentions Jacobs name, and this gets the ball rolling (lets avoid any chicken and egg time travel discussions because they can go on forever). So i also think Jacob never appointed Locke as leader, and has never said such a thing, this was MIB using the time travelling to his advantage, after all it was ‘Christian’ who lead Locke to the time travel causing donkeywheel, and who also told him he had to die. If the others had knowledge of Lockes future leadership position BEFORE Oceanic crashed, its possible that MIB was also aware, this is why smokie got to Locke so soon after the crash.

MIB has fooled Locke and has bamboozled the others, built him up to the leadership position, then had him die and replace him. This might be why Flocke yells at the others, telling them ‘i’m very disappointed in all of you!’ Because they are mindless sheep who blindly follow the word of Jacob, a man they’ve never seen or spoken to, without even questioning why or if the words are actually coming from him. Now they have to pay the consequences, and MIBs plan to get home is in motion.

But now Jacobs counteraction is in motion, i think he has been waiting patiently for a long time, knowing that MIB would find his loophole and kill him. But now in his ‘dead’ state, the next level of the game begins, and MIB will finally be stopped for good.

Anyway, throw some feedback my way, as i think i’m on to something. I have posted similar theories before, but as the show develops there is more proof that this is the case.

I'm a hiphop producer from London, and obviously a huge fan of Lost. Its a bit of a love/hate thing as its made me cynical of all other TV shows (Heroes being one of the most overrated poorly written shows i've seen). Never been into much big american TV drama or Sci-fi, more into british comedy, but Lost has been amazing, and i really hope it continues that awesomeness in its final season. I'm usually pretty good at predicting the end of a story which can annoy people around me, but this show is so intricately constructed, even in its 2nd to last season, i still don't have a clue. I'm trying my best though.

  1. This theory appears to be totally on point. Great job and well said. As a fan, it disturbs me to have Jack and Sawyer on opposite sides, that is, Sawyer with MIB and Jack and Hurley with Jacob.

  2. I have a couple of points that seem to support your theory – firstly, Claire’s “FRIEND”. It was Christian she followed and was with when she left Aaron behind, he told her that Aaron wasn’t supposed to be on the island – Sawyer found Aaron but they couldn’t find Claire anywhere, so that is when Kate took responsibility for Aaron. So perhaps Claire’s friend has been with her since that time – sometimes as Christian, MIB, Smokey or now Flocke – but she is able to recognize him no matter what form he takes. (Although you could also argue that Christian was really Christian and knew he had to get Aaron away from Claire before she the events that were to come.)
Also, I believe that Jacob not only knew that Ben was going to kill him, but actually encouraged him to do it. Ben was angry with Jacob going on about how he has done everything that Jacob has asked of him over the years, yet he never got to meet with Jacob until Locke brought him – and that Locke simply asked once and “was marched up here like he’s Moses.” After Ben’s rant, he says to Jacob, “What about me?” Jacob’s reply, of course, “What about you?” Jacob was fully aware of what that statement would cause Ben to do – thrust the knife into Jacob’s heart. I believe Jacob needed to die for his plan to be fulfilled. Also – Jacob wouldn’t have needed a replacement, had he not brought the Oceanic passengers there to begin with.

  3. I think what happened at the lighthouse in the last episode gives some weight to the idea that Jacob has been in control, even when things don’t appear to be happening to his advantage. What Jack did seemed to ruin what Jacob planned, but at the end of it all that was actually what he wanted. “I want you to want to do it.” If he is pulling a long con on MIB then all these seemingly MIB-advantageous events are Jacob’s way of making MIB make choices that he thinks are his own. Certain sacrifices are necessary for the greater good, and people need to stay in the dark about the bigger picture if they are going to act or choose the way they are “supposed to.”

  4. i think usually instructions are handed down by jacob through lists by the ankhs. mib hasnt been shown to make lists yet. but there does seem to be some influence with the frieghter. however it makes sense since MIB never wants anyone to come to the island while jacob wants to throw a whole big party with everyone invited.

ben usually doesn’t get his info from the cabin, because he tells locke later he was legitimately surprised that the cabin started shaking and something happened. he was bluffing, but MIB or christian was in there.

i dont believe the others have been getting orders from mib the whole time though. it seems hes been doing things the whole time like hes been doing with hurley (but through lists and notes). go do this, and even if it “fails” it is actually what he wanted anyways

  5. Shepherdsflocke, great writing! You really put it all together in a very coherent and logical way.
Lostonlongisland, I agree with you–I hate the idea of Sawyer and Jack on opposite sides. Maybe Sawyer will ultimately realize that Smlocke is a fake, and outsmart him, as he usually does, and turn to the light side.
Whataboutme, I really like the idea that Jacob has been in control all along, and that his plans, while not always obviously succeeding, will triumph in the end.

  6. First of all, an enjoyable read.

So I guess when Jacob says “They’re coming” before his final breathe, he’s referring to the people that are on their way to the island right now.

Whoever they are, they’re big news. MIB’s been spending all his time recruiting since Jacob told him this. I’m mostly curious at this time as to who is about to make an appearance on the island. It wouldn’t be Charles Widmore or Eloise Hawking would it? They seem like huge players in the real world, but not so much in the grand scheme of things island-wise. The suspense is brutal.

  7. Does anyone here watch sky ones ‘Lost Initiative’?

I sent them a cut down version of this theory and just got an e-mail saying they’re going to read it out on next wednsdays show!!

    I’m so stoked!!!!

  8. Ooh Chief,

i just thought, knowing Charles widmores position in the outside world, and his company working in pharmacuticals and what,
could he now have some connection with the Hanso foundation?…

  9. Awesome indeed.

Not tooting my own horn horn or anything, but they wrote in the e-mail
‘this is one of the best theories we have been sent’

    (toot toot)

  10. ah its an internet video podcast for Sky One, the station that airs Lost in the UK.

Really funny show, i’d highly recommend it to any avid lost fan with a sense of humour.

I’ll post a link when it comes out.

and thanks imisscharlie, to be honest, i’m still quite suprised noones really with us on this one (that makes me sound like a right knob).

  11. thanks for the info, shep, on the podcast–I’m going to try to see if I can get it, if not I’ll look for your link.

And don’t worry, they’ll all come around when it’s proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that we’re right! (BTW what’s a “right knob”? I’m a New Yorker and I’ve never heard that expression!)

  12. ‘Knob’ is a british slang term for male genitalia,

I thought i’d tone it down to a PG rating.

The video podcast comes out Fridays right after lost is shown here, and they do a midweek show wednsdays, but remember losts shown three days later here, so ‘the lost initiative’ is also three days behind.

  13. I thought i’d repeat this here.

Much like my belief that MIBs manipulation is what got Locke the leadership position, it could have also been MIB posing as Bens mum who lead Ben to that first meeting which Richard in the jungle which set the ball rolling for Bens future leadership. Interestingly, what sparked Richards interest in Ben, is that Ben saw his dead mother. If that wasn’t Bens mum, and was smokie, that puts a whole new spin on it.

Although, Bens mums corpse is not on the island, so i don’t know how the writers will explain that one (if they do).

  14. @ifoundmyloophole

Your comment just gave me 100% clarification that Christian at dharmaville WAS NOT SMOKEY… Ilana explained that once smokey took the form of John Locke he COULD NO LONGER change forms. So thanks for clearing that up… Christian is his own identity, we just haven’t learned what yet…

  15. I think that Christian is infected by someone that was previously a big player and or manipulator in the game. All of the people who have died and been left unburied have become infected with the spirits on the island. Thus, the game gets played out over and over again with the same result, because it is the same people. Jacob has made the Losties that he touched invulnerable to a physical attack by MIB or Smokey, but that does not mean that they cannot get themselves killed some other way. I wonder what it is about them that will make this time different? That has to be the point of the show, right?

  16. A couple of questions:

    1) If Locke was infected early on, why was it necessary to kill off Locke instead of just let him continue to run around as Infected Locke rather than Monster Flocke?

    2) Any thoughts on how Ben changed when he was healed in the Temple?

  17. Ilie,

I just had a thought about Ben at the temple,
maybe thats how Jacob/the others ‘claim’ people.
So when people are ‘baptized’ in the temple water, they are ‘claimed’ for the team opposing MIBs, much in the same way those that are ‘infected’ by smokie.

And on killing Locke, i have a theory that Smokie was originally the ‘GOD’ that the others praised, until it was overthrown somehow and Jacob took its ruling position over the others. I think it wanted to use Locke to get into that postion again, as i think the others (maybe just Richards others) have to follow WHOEVER is appointed leader.
