black rock hit it
volcano/earthquake
the incident (jughead) caused it
Desmond’s “system failure” incident
smoke monster got too angry
when Locke turned the wheel
In the book Haroun and the Sea of Stories, the book that Desmond had with him on 815, the man who splits himself into two beings (an anthropomorphic shadow and a diminished man) is crushed by a giant tumbling statue.
I belive(at the moment) that the statue may have crumbled when MIB was banished from the Temple - possibly Jacob and his cohorts demolished it because it represented something to do with MIB. This may answer the reason why MIB (Flocke) looked so surprised that Jacob was there all the time. Just a thought…
Well, in the Alt, when the statue is underwater, is still just a foot. So, whatever events happened in the original way, must have happened again in the Alt.
