The BiNG Theory.
While I was contemplating why Eloise, Widmore, and Richard would want to help Jack and the losties blow up the swan station in 1977(?) I then came to the realization that we have two realities now.
How is it possible to have two timelines(?) If Jack’s plan worked then they should of died in 1977 by blowing up the Swan station with Jughead and their future selve’s would land in LAX in 2004 thanks to their own actions in 1977 the end, but there is this alternate reality that seems to coincide in time with our original 2007 reality.
I believe that the hydrogen bomb’s core going off inside a pocket of high energy is what caused the Island to sink in the alternate reality but why is the Island underwater in 2004 but perfectly fine in 2007(?)
I assumed that there was ONE timeline that ‘split’ at one point causing TWO timelines, I figured that the split all started in 1977 when the bomb goes off changing their future’s but it just doesnt make sense that there are two timelines unless Jughead goes off in 1977 but in the Alternate timeline and not in the Original timeline, thats the only explanation for the Island to be destroyed during 2004 in the alternate reality and the Island somehow existing during 2007 in the original timeline.
In the alternate reality when they are on the plane after the turbulence it shows some special effects and the camera goes underwater and we are seeing the Island underwater and it shows the toes of taweret with great detail but when I watched it again I seen the Dharma Barracks as well before it shows the statue so that definitely has some importance because that means everything up until 1977 should happen in the alternate timeline as it did in the original timeline.
EVERYTHING doesnt just change and expect it to be a cause of “The Butterfly Effect”, the proof is everything happened as it did in the alternate reality as it did in the original reality because the Island existed in the alternate reality and whoever built the statue of taweret in the Original reality did the exact same in the Alternate reality, So did the people who built the Dharma barracks in both realities prior to the Jughead blowing up in 1977, Jacob and MIB had that conversation the same way in both realities because there would be nothing that would cause it to change in anyway (Whatever Happened, Happened or The Miles Theory)
The significance in all that is we could of been watching Jack and the losties in 1977 changing the future in the Alternate reality because NOTHING would be different until the bomb goes off, THEN the pre-determined future wouldnt really matter because in the original reality the Island exists after 1977 (Somehow?) and in the alternate reality it doesnt exist so thats a huge difference obviously and that is where “The Butterfly Effect” would start to take place and maybe that is how Jack and the other losties get back from 1977 to 2007, because they were not in their time let alone their reality.
I’ve been working on this theory ever since I first seen the Island and the Statue of Taweret in the alternate reality and there were many drafts and starting over from scratch, I almost posted it in the “Just For Fun” because the idea was kind of crazy but I tried my best to make it a debatable theory, I hope. I really tried to disprove my own idea but I just cant ask myself the right questions for me to think otherwise because I fear im too close to the idea and some outside opinions would be much appreciated Thanks.

haha, thats a good one. I had some really crappy post titles before so I thought screw it, if people refer to this idea in anyway I would like it be known as “The BiNG Theory” because I havent seen another theory like this.
I am starting to wonder if in fact these are alternate dimensions. I read a scientific article that theorized that what is taking place right now IRL is being mirrored with a slight difference in another dimension and there is an infinite number of dimensions and hence possibilities. If you died in a car crash on the way home from work one day, the theory goes that in another dimension you swerved and survived and in yet another you took the bus that day, and so on and so on. I am wondering if we are seeing what would happen in another dimension if the plane never crashed, instead of an alternate timeline. Either way, I still get the headaches trying to make sense of it. 🙂
Katie – If it is another dimension & infinite possibilities with different outcomes then that would mean we are watching 1 dimension out of Infinity possible dimensions?
An in this alt dimension nothing from our original timeline would be relevant because ANYTHING could of changed but I just see too much coincidence here.
I see an altered dimension as something I can go to & see with my eyes as BiNG coming from my own dimension & watching another me but different. In one dimension I can be King or in another be dead & so on.
Maybe a combination of both alternate timelines and dimensions? Although I admit that would probably be too complicated a plot, especially for the last season. They said there would not be time travel, and yet we had it, so why not time travel and then showing us what the possiblities would be (via another dimension) if the plane had never crashed in the first place? I still kinda feel like that is too big a piece of the puzzle and we won’t know until its all over. I feel like small clues is what we’ll mostly be getting for a while.
Also, what if the ‘loophole’ is related to alternate dimensions? Could be why there are 2 Locke’s… one is from an alternate dimension while the other is the dead guy from the current dimension. Ugh. I need an asprin.
Yeah I understand that Katie, I feel that we are seeing an Altered Timeline because the pre-determined past was altered in 1977 and ITS IN THAT DIMENSION/REALITY/TIMELINE that the future events will be unscripted & the possibilities open up but only in that dimension/reality/timeline…NOt an altered one like we are seeing now.

I tried to read it, it is kind of confusing. I have given up on the alt timeline shit, I will just allow LOST to show me the way.
I am much more interested in that little kid that apparently scares the smoke monster. I am waiting for a solid theory on that but honestly we don’t know shit!

Bingo, what may be playing out right know is the Many Worlds Interpretation of quantum physics. Basicly at any time there is a choice to be made the universe splits into every possible outcome for that choice, but each version is not aware of the other versions. My post “Schrodinger’s Island” uses a variation of this called Quantum Suicide.
Since LA X I’ve been assuming that the detonation of Jughead has been the cause of the split we are seeing, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. The reality off Island has split off at an earlier point, possibly, but not necessarily, during the incident. For the Many Worlds Interpretation a large amount of energy is not needed for the split to occur, the universe just splits.
I recommend looking up ‘multiverse’ on Wikipedia and ‘quantum suicide’ on HowStuffWorks for better explainations.

perhaps there is no alternate timeline. The alternate timeline (locke being kicked from his job) is what actually happens. I believe people have mentioned this before. ie that timeline is a “soap opera”. We have grown so attached to the characters that they are showing us a glimpse of what happens after they land.
Katetheorises: I like your idea of infinite possibilities of how things occur, like the film sliding doors. But the plane crashing is not necessarily THE event. Because in fact, surely that does not happen if Desmond does not push the buttons. Or does it? Seems to be that Desmond affects things. Like the cricket bat incident. They were pulled to the island for a reason. “We are here for a reason Jack!”.
Anyway, I bet we wont get too many more clues until many more episodes down the road!!!!

@nachochris- Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof stated clearly and plainly in the podcast that this alternate (although they mention they hate the title alternate time-line) time-line is just as real as the first time-line. I think you’re trying to say that this time-line is fake. I might’ve misunderstood you.
That the time line of things happening on the island is fake right Benhamine? That si what I ws alluding to, but actually someone has written this in a post called “How this will End” so anyway they have written. but then I read somewhere else that it has been suggested the timelines will definitley merge. So this would mean that theory is wrong.
Anyway with the writers they can argue it anyway. i thought there was no time travel? And time travel happened. So we have to take what they say with a pinch of salt.
