Walkabout, Jacobs touch = summons, Flashes

First of all, thank you for making this site! I’ve been reading until my eyes burn. I really do enjoy reading your theories and finally here’s my chance to share my thoughts. This post is going to be a bunch of little theories, because as much as I’d like to, I can’t seem to tie them together into one big one.

Walkabout—
Is it possible that their time on the island is really just a metaphorical “Walkabout”? In an episode I watched recently; Locke was in physical therapy and his “orderly” (whom we see several times in the series) tells Locke *paraphrasing here:: What you need is to go on a Walkabout ::LOCKE:: What’s a Walkabout? ::ORDERLY:: It’s a journey of self discovery. Obviously the series is about the growth of our characters and overcoming their demons, aka, Self Discovery. In the flash sideways, Locke tells Boone that he did go on his Walkabout. Hmmmm??

Jacobs touch = A summoning??
Now, I know there are a few holes here, but bear with me. Last season, when we were introduced to Jacob, we see him interact with the Oceanic crew BEFORE they came to the island. In each visit, he made sure that he physically touched them (bopping Kate on the nose, bumping Sawyer’s finger when passing him the pen, bowing to Sun and Jin, handing Jack the candy bar, touching Locke’s shoulder when he fell). Can this possibly be how Jacob summons them to the island? We get from Jacob’s and MIB’s conversation, on the beach, that Jacob brings humanity to the island, can this be how?

Oceanics or, “Losties” were there all along—
Have you ever noticed that whenever the “Losties” go searching for answers, sometimes they end up being the answer? Like, with the Hatch and the Dharmas. Is it possible they were always there? Maybe even in different loops?

I have a million other things I want to talk about, but I’ll settle with this being my last one.

FLASHES BEFORE MY EYES—
In this episode we see what happens to Desmond after the hatch appears to have exploded. Why is he still alive? Shouldn’t he have been blown to bits? And where did his damn clothes go? Here’s a theory: He didn’t survive.

Going along with the flash sideways and loop theory…
In that explosion, he died. When characters on the island die they possibly are redirected to another loop. In this episode, Desmond went to another “Loop”. He ended up with Penny and red paint all over him. He starts to remember that he already did this. He speaks with Hawking and learns about course correcting. He goes to the pub and tries to change what happened when he told the bartender to duck; this threw of the balance, and put him into another loop on the island.

When Juliet is dieing, she says stuff about coffee and dutch. Could this be her drifting between loops? Can this be why after the explosion Desmond can “see the future” or other loops? Because now he is more sensitive to the different loops he has experienced?

Also, in this episode they say the world Dejavu about three times…Which may be a clue.

Anyway, sorry I know some of this has been discussed, but I wanted to add a few things to the theories. I know there ARE holes and gaps and the in-betweens, but I appreciate the time you took to read it. I’d really like to hear your thoughts.

I like the last theory more then the rest especially the line:-

He goes to the pub and tries to change what happened when he told the bartender to duck; this threw of the balance, and put him into another loop on the island.

Keep with this i’d love to hear more of your thinking on this 1

  2. Please no loops.
    Alternate time lines only.
    Please.

  3. sarajs 16, You have made some awesome connections in your theory. in particular, you have picked up on the ‘deja vu’ connections.

I really like your thoughts. Nicely presented, in addition.

I like what you are saying about Desmond actually dying and flashing to an alt timeline. I think that was what Dave was trying to tell Hurley in the episode titled “Dave”. He told Hurley that if he died, he would “wake up”, that he would get back to reality. Dave told Hurley that what he was experiencing on the island was just a fantasy that he had concocted and that he was really still in the institution. Now, I don’t believe that what is happening on the island is a fantasy, but I think it is a possibility that if Hurley had died, it would have taken his conscieceness (sp) out of the island timeline into the alt time line. Whether or not he remembered anything or had some deja vu experiences is an interesting question.

Oh, yes! I forgot about Dave. This theory can also explain why the writers aren’t afraid to kill just about half of the characters on the show–because they aren’t actually “dead”.

Hmmm. We also see Libby in the institution in that episode. Could this also be another “Alternate” life/loop that she has? Because as we know, she does infact “die” on the island.

Just thought a little longer and came up with something else….

Maybe MiB can only pose as the people that are actually dead. Perhaps, once someone dies off of the island, then they really do die. For example, Christian, Yemi, Ben’s mother, LOCKE, etc… or maybe not because what about Walt? Hmmm.

I do think that dieing off the island may = really dead in this case?? hmmm.
