What’s in the Sack Johnny…?

This may be common knowledge for some, but recently I have heard many people here, at work, podcast questions, and another site question the contents and importance of John Lockes backpack…

What is in the backpack…?

If you remember the scene with Jack and Ray off island, Ray gave Jack Christians black shoes that he was supposed to be wearing when returning from Australia in the casket.
Jack then went to where ‘dead Locke’ was…and put them on him.

When Ajira crashed on the island, John was shown in the suite for a bit…but then after changing, and before leaving for the main island…he clicked the shoes together (wizard of oz style) and put them in the bag…coincidence that he clicked the shoes together and wants to go home…I think not…

Christian was seen by Frank and Sun in the Rec room on the main island, and gave them the picture of the Losties from the 70s…telling them to wait for Locke.

Christian was also seen in the cabin in “Cabin Fever” and “The Man Behind the Curtain”.
I have been saying that MIB is actually Christian, or vice versa… but being that Christian appeared on the freighter, told Michael he could go now, and disappeared just before the freighter exploded…and with the recent confession from Flocke that he cannot just turn into a cloud of smoke and fly across the water (“because that would be ridiculous”)…it makes it hard for me to believe anymore that Christian IS Smokey…although MIB may have a few tricks left up his sleeve…or at least in his backpack…

The point is, that one way or another Christian is seemingly the man behind the curtain…whether that curtain is “black” or “white” is yet to be seen…
I guess MIB knows about Christian…or at least that Jack put those shoes on Locke…My bet is that MIB is going to use the shoes as a sign to trick Jack into either believing that he is the real Locke…believing that Christian is on his side…or just to gain his trust in general…

The shoes…black and white…and Christian Shepard are not done on Lost…and if MIB is stuck looking like John Locke…my guess is that Christian is a separate entity altogether…unless Jack takes over for Jacob and MIB is able to then change form yet again…

Abbot Enheduanna Schwarzschild Name meaning: -Abbot: Father defined by or in religious connotation/definition. From the beginning, Lost was riddled with religious tone and it was obvious it would play some sort of role. Seemed fitting to start here. -Enheduanna: Mesopotamian High Priestess and the modern civilization’s first recorded poet. I created the name after season 1. John explaining backgammon history to Walt spawned the idea that the island may have a link yo the beginning of civilization and maybe even time itself. It was “poetic” and important to add this to my pseudonym. I needed the mother of poetry in modern civilization to match the religious “Father” in my first name. -Schwarzschild: Reference to Karl Schwarzschild and Schwarzschild Black Holes. Smoke monsters, hatches, and curing paralysis doesn’t point to black holes…but the sci-fi elements ran deep and obvious. The wheel moving the island and transporting Ben felt like it got plucked from my imagination. A.E.S.

  1. Just mentioning that Christian is the man behind the curtain = 5 stars. I still think that’s who was in the cabin chair in “The Man Behind The Curtain”.

  2. I agree that Christian may not be Smokey. But if he truly isnt, I dont think he is a good guy. The way he pushed Locke along the path leading to his suicide attempt and death, the way he triumphantly told Michael that “he can go now” when the bomb was about to go off, and how Claire ends up with him after she disappears in the jungle, and Claire lumps his in with smokey by saying “my father and my friend.” I dont know how it could possibly be to tell the truth, unless people are just arent seeing whats right in front of their faces and Christian we see on the island is just Christian Shephard: possibly malevolent ghost?

  3. damn it dont tease me…and dont tell me either, lol… not even if Im right…

Do me one favor though…if anybody cheats, and you KNOW they cheat…nail ’em doll…

…then come tell me not to look there, lol

  4. Loopy…I hope you are right about Christian and Smokey…

I really wanted it to be just so we would get a skywalker like showdown…

I guess if Jack goes the route of MIB and Christian is aligned with Jacob it could play out that way too…

Or as some believe, and I believed until about 2 months ago…which tears me trying to decide if I should have stuck with it is, Christian is simply Christian Shepard…period…

What about Jacks son or the numbers…I dont have anything about him/them here…how would he/they fit?

  5. You know, the whole deal with how Jack was told to put something of his father’s in John Locke’s coffin by ELoise Hawking was weird. In that scene where the Losties all go to meet ELoise Hawking in the church basement with the pendulum to discuss how to get back to the island, is where this plot line started, you’ll recall. Shortly after telling Ben she didn’t trust him, she asks to speak with Jack in private. When they meet in the next room, she tells him he needs to bring something of hs fathers’, and place it with John’s body. I always wondered not only why/how she knew to tell Jack that, but WHY did it have to be in secret. Both Eloise and Widmore seem to know much of future events….I wonder how the shoes will now play into the conflict that is unfolding.

  6. black shoes vs earlier white shoes hanging in the jungle… hmmm. i think christian or what appears to be christian is in charge of enforcing the rules. and seems to have a role similar to widmore and eloise, getting people where they need to be.

  7. i dont think its the real christian for a start his previous life hes a ruined alcholic ex doctor! and as his body was dead arriving on the island MIB could take it, visa versa Locke was dead arriving on the island and mib has taken his form, also i think this relates to ben he believed he was working for jacob wen all along he met MIB as a child outside the sonic protector things! and therefore wen he led locke to the cabin he saw christian who was really MIB,

  8. just on the way home from training had a thought that when christian gave the photo to sun who had to give it to locke way of showing him who were the candidates?

  9. rockitman…your words kind of inspired me to finish a thought I had on Widmores predictions in my next post.
Ive said before that hawking is possibly aware of events due to the journal Dan is/was writing in…that oddly enough she gave him in the off island past…Good thoughts all around sir…

45…I do believe that Christian is pulling strings somewhere, somehow…so does that make him the person that Jacob answers to…or is that Hanso, or god, or the devil, or… … … …?

  10. Eko…I really hope Christian doesnt turn out to just be a mindless zombie…he has to have some connection that we are missing…still think Christian is Christian…who else he is is yet to be told, but I really beileve he is himself even if he is someone else too…
    does that make sense?

Achalli…Theres no place like home, the man behind the curtain, Henry Gale, “Zeke”, and while we are talking shoes here…lets not forget about the red shoes that the man Des and Hawking see get killed after she points him out is wearing…now if we can just get Vincent into a basket…we will be on our way to Oz…

Batman…I really think that jack would be the only one who would feel the shoes are significant…that HAS to be why Flocke kept them in the sack…

  11. I like this too…. Good Job!!! After, Ab Aterno (my spelling off?) I thought it was explained that a person could appear as MIB, and then as a ghost. I felt Isabella was MIB on the Black Rock, but her own ghost when Hurley translated… (just like the ghost whisperer… hahahaha) Anyhow, I thought this was an good in relating to how Christian could of at time appeared as MIB, and at other times appeared as himself…

  12. thanks again sin…honestly…the whole Ab Aterno (I think your sp is correct)I have to admit that the whole ghost/MIB thing has caused me to be more confused than I have ever been about a subject on the show…

    Its a circle…a freakin circle…

    Richard sees his dead wife…
MIB appears, and his wife is seemingly taken/killed…
Jacob says “that wasnt your wife”…
Then hurley, who can talk to the dead…talks to her (for the second time this episode, and even Richard seems to talk to her…

So yes…I think you are corrext about her actually being MIB once, and herself another time…again good comment…

Ive missed you around here Sin…I request at least a once a week pop in please…

  13. ahhh… Thanks… A.E.S. I was very busy last week, and I was a little disappointed w/ Ab Aterno… (I must confess….) After, I rewatched on Tuesday night I enjoyed it more.. I just think it was very predictable….

I will try 2 make an appearance @ least once a week… LOL (I’m going on a mini vacation the weekend of the 16th, so I may be MIA…)
