Oh yeah, the flash sideways is our Losties last shot to live the lifes that they made deals for in the previous life but this time there is no island to be destroyed, no MIB, no Jacob so time(the record) wont be reset.

When MIB said it will end in destruction like it always does. Hes talking about the replay of the record.

When Jacob says it only ends once he's talking about when it finally ends for himself and MIB and the Record can play on.

I am also in firm belief that Jacob and the MIB share some sort of Yin/Yang relationship. You can't have one without the other. What is Hot if Cold doesn't exist? Yes, Jacob knew he had to die because that is the only was MIB can be destroyed.

I think, Jacob wanted to trap the MIB because MIB wants to bring on Doomsday. I believe that he wants to bring on doomsday because trapped in existence. I believe time is like a record (Record Theory) that plays over and over. Jacob and MIB have seen this replay an infinite amount of times. MIB wants to escape the island, to infect the world, to bring on Doomsday so he can finally be free of his existence. Jacob believes in man and wants the record to play on and not get restarted.

"these two have always been paired off." - this got me thinking. I initially thought that it would be Jack with Jacob vs Sawyer with MIB(Flocke) and you have Kate in the middle. I agree Jack will be the candidate but what is the candidate?

Maybe the Candidate isn't someone to just battle Evil Locke. Maybe the Candidate needs to SACRIFICE themselves so Jacob can embody them like MIB is doing with Locke. Jack will have to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to let Jacob embody him so he can battle Flocke (MIB) in order to save mankind.

"I think all the artifacts and enscriptions we see are to remind us that ideas about good and evil have existed throughout human history across many times and cultures. " - great.

"I strongly believe that the only way Lost can end is with the Island ending" - The island gets destroyed along with Jacob and MIB. When the island gets destroyed, the "Record" of time replays but this time it replays for the last time and that is what we are seeing in the flash sideways. What you do in this life effects what happens in the next life. The flash sideways is the last chance for our losties to get it right. Its the way MIB can give Sayid Nadia back (deals with the devil never are what they appear- he got nadia back but shes married to his brother) and where Jack (our hero) can live a happy life and so on.

One more thing- Why when I write a theory and try to post it, it doesn't post at all. Does every Post have to be submitted for review? I have some thoughts I want to share but this site wont let me post. anyone know what's up with that?

I think you're right about Jacob knowing his own death was necessary. I, for one, had the feeling Jacob wasn't all too surprised he was being killed, nor did he put up much of a fight for survival. Although, if I were stuck for centuries on an island with the task of keeping MiB in check, I might just let myself be killed, too. Although, it is interesting Jacob's influence did not AT ALL end with his death. Jacob just now works through Hurley...so it makes me wonder if MiB is totally clueless as to the fact that Jacob is still around "in spirit" and influencing the Losties...
