It probably took at around a year or two to reach the Canary Islands, if that was its first stop. They probably were around that area trading slaves and making rum/tanning leather or whatever sailors did back then, until 22 years later the captain decides to buy some healthy new slaves from the local prison and set sail back to wherever, and end up crashing on the island.
