Good call. Roger seemed like he was pretty fed up even before Ben got shot, maybe since it never happened, Roger took Ben and got the hell outta there.

well yes you are right, it seems there wouldnt be an evacuation under my circumstances (no faraday to warn them). but he seemed pretty pissed at dharma the whole time, and maybe ben getting shot made him stay...

It seems as though Roger and Ben left the island before the evacuation (if it happened in this timeline at all). When Roger is talking to Ben he makes it sound as though it was his decision to leave rather than some big emergency evacuation.

well in the alt, the losties never flash to the past because they never crash. therefore sayid doesnt shoot ben, etc. and maybe if sayid doesnt shoot ben, roger gets all fed up with dharma (like he was doing anyway) and leaves the island during the evacuation.

I'm confused about something. Can any of you help? If in SLU the island is underwater then why would SLU Ben and his dad have a conversation about Dharma and if they had stayed implying that they could have. Would they not have mentioned somethng about it be sunken? Have I missed a basic point.. be kind.. I need the remedial version of LOST this season. Thanks

I have a similar yet different idea on this. In the original timeline, the losties went back to the 70s and always tried to detonate the bomb, but Juliet didn’t go through with it, but they did stop Radzinski from drilling any further. Those events lead to the timeline we saw in seasons 1-5. The events in ‘The Incident’ have Juliet actually detonating the bomb – this creates a grandfather paradox, and the universe splits the timelines to counter this. In the new timeline (which has occurred since 77) 815 doesn’t crash and the losties don’t go to the 70s, there is no one to stop Radzinski. He drills right into the core of the pocket of energy – sinking the island somehow. Don’t know but it does fit.

ilie,

i think flashing back to 2007 after the bomb 'goes off' is a massive departure from reality.

And its good to know we have a physicist on the site, you might wanna keep that quite, or people are gonna start asking you a bunch of questions.

I dare to say that it's highly unlikely that a nuclear bomb and a pocket of magnetism would somehow cancel eachother perfectly.

And I'm actually a physicist. :)

But if we depart from reality, anything is of course possible.

my view of what happened is sort of, the bomb was a big energy, what Dharma were drilling into was a big energy, but when they came together, they cancelled eachother out. so the drill site situation was neutralized, and on the other hand, there wasn't an explosion as such.

I'm no scientist (obviously), but that was how i saw it. On how they flash back to 2007, I dunno about that one...aliens?

Anyway, what you're saying makes sense, I hadn't personally thought of it that way...unfortunately, a lot of ideas could make sense about the sinking.
