Flockes get out of jail card.

Flockes method of escape proves that the island is sentient or a machine.

Think about. He is impersonating a dead man. Now everyone of the losties who has come across him knows instantly that he is not the real John Locke. Except for Claire who to be kind to is nuts, not evil. I know Desmond said he was John Locke when Flocke asked him did he know who he was, but I think Des thought he was yanking Flockes chain.

For Flocke to get off island he said that they had to recreate the conditions of how they got there. The only reason i believe this is so is because the island must be able to see the human form but not the soul or spirit within.

Jacob knows what flocke looks like. Whoever he is he took Johns body so he would not look like himself. After all he wouldn’t recognize his own reflection now. Maybe that’s what all the mirror stuff is about this season.

Therefore the island must be either sentient or some kind of machine.

  1. You know…the mirror stuff is the best part of this whole thing…I know you are pushing the machine, but I really think that if the writers dont use it, it would be a let down after hearing your thought…thats why I really like the mirror idea.
An idea like that is why I loved this site for so long…just wanted to explain that…

    On to the machine…

    I need a more defined ‘sentient’…
If you are referring to it on strictly a machine level…than no, I dont fully agree.
Or at least want to agree…

If you are referring to it on more of a living being level…than Im on board.

To be honest, I was pondering a theory based on the idea that the island is a living breathing thing…and Jacob and MIB are like the angel and demon on its shoulders…

But then you counter my thought with a machine idea…and I had to think about it…yet again…

    But first…
What if we are both a little correct?

What if it began as a machine, and through methods unknown, has become a conscious being itself. (maybe your definition of ‘sentient’)

Jacob and MIB could very well represent the two different sides, Jacob being a more human/living side, with Light being a necessity for existence.
MIB on the other hand, could represent the machine side. I believe fully now that the Smoke Monster is nothing more than a machine …although it may have very well been created from a living person, he exists only in the conscious of the monster now.

Sorry to kind of run away from the main thought of your theory…it just made me think a little.

I do actually believe that MIB and Jacob will be given human back-stories, but where they will take it is completely mind-numbing to me, yet I could come up with a million scenarios…

But what you say about the island in your original thought makes a lot of sense. I really do like the concept, and although I really would like to believe that the island almost possesses a mind of its own, and maybe even functions on a more natural/organic level, than fully technological…I remember one very important detail from season 1…”Deus ex Machina”…or “God From the Machine”…

Excellent theory overall…maybe I dont like it, but its hard not to agree with…
