I'm also a Dickens fanatic and again his genius lies in the characterisation and the detail - all the humour is here, as it is in Lost with the asides, looks and observations between the characters - Hurley being an amazing one. And - as you mentioned I believe! - the wonderful Magus by John Fowles. The Dark Tower I have lined up when I get to the end of The Stand but there is some cool stuff on King's official site and a game where you get to explore his office and learn about his worlds including some elements of The Dark Tower (I won't spoil it but you now know where to go if you want to find out more!) which seem to be a direct parallel in many ways.
