I think the most interesting part of the last candidate was without doubt a brief sequence in which Sun and Locke were being rushed into hospital simultaneously and she recognises him and freaks out.
Now I guess the story could reveal in the alt universe or flash sideways timeline or whatever u fancy calling it, that these 2 have history, but I think in this moment, with both of them being severly injured there was another ‘bleed’ between the timelines and Sun recognises him as evil incarnate.
I think the most important part of of the alt universe is the consequences it has for Locke.
I think there are just a few pieces left of the puzzle now. I think the MIB and Jacob back story will come just before the last episode and it could well have a massive twist. Is Jacob the real villain, is MIB infact good? are they brothers? are they from the future?
And how will Desmond play a part in destroying MIB? We know what Widmore seems most interested in is Desmonds ability to with stand electromagnetic blasts. Is this how he’s gonna get MIB, lure him into some kind of ‘Incident’. Or did Widmore want to blast him into the alt universe, because Eloise seemed to know she was living in a ‘dream world’. All part of a big scheme?
And just a little bit of me wants to see what happens if evil does leave the island. All talk of it makes me want to see it. Maybe the Losties gain consciousness of their real time in the alt universe, Desmond transfers smokie acorss through Locke, he infects everyone and the the two timelines connect: The characters become aware of how terrible Locke is and they set out to stay on the island to stop him.

i wonder if MIB’s decision to take the form of John Locke will be his major downfall in the end? When Flocke and Jack are talking, MIB said that Locke was the only one who wanted to stay on the Island and not leave. As MIB seems so desparate to leave, maybe taking Lockes form was a bad idea. Just a thought….

I couldnt agree with u more! I personally think that Jacob knew this is how it will play out and has made it so that Locke would be the final form MIB takes, made sure the other Losties created the incident and the alt timeline so that John Lockes natural faith would be alive in a way.
I think that if the timelines collide Locke could become like the ‘cork’ that contains evil MIB inside. I think thats why in series one locke just had a natural instict around the island and knew when it was gonna rain. He and the smoke monster may have overlapping lifes.

After they made sure that Desmond was going to be able to withstand the EM burst that they have in plan for him, Widmore was going to ask Desmond to make a great sacrifice. I think the two things are connected. I thin Widmore’s plan is to get all the candidates and place them into the FSW, maybe using a pocket of energy on the island. His thinking here could be that if they trap them all and neutralize the Losties without killing them and then putting them all behind the fence, that Smokey wont be able to achieve leaving the island…..EVER. Its actually a good plan and is a lot like one of the Highlander movies. They took a bunch of super powerful immortals and put them in a coma basically and made it to where if no one person could come and take their heads and become super powerful and unstoppable. But this plan is pretty sketchy because the Losties would never agree to such a thing cause it’s besically asking them to sacrifice their lives in order to make sure Smokey cant escape.
This plan could also explain why Widmore brings a bunch of geeky scientist instead of a bad ass army of mercs.

@ greatforsaken…
Very valid points raised, I have always wondered why Widmore brought scientists and also if it is to end then sacrifices will need to be made. But what would you sacrifice your life for…the rest of humanity perhaps? Maybe we will get to see evil incarnate off island in the sideways storyline, the complete destruction of LA or possibly end of the World stuff. It won’t be nice either way.
So if the sideways losties are starting to have realisations of who they are back in the jungle and they shortly start to see people dying horribly around them in the sideways storyline because evil has been unleashed to destroy everyone and everything then is it possible that they will realise they have a way of preventing this disaster, a get out clause, an alternative to whatever goes wrong. If I can go to the island, to whatever life this is and change this sideways storyline then and save millions is that worth making a sacrifice for?
However would sacrificing yourself in the sideways storyline eliminate you in the island timeline, there are some interesting theories here that talk about consciousness. If the body died in another timeline would the consciousness be able to join another body, seen evidence of it in the show so I guess to present an explanation of this in an episode must be due.
But if it is to end then will those on the island have to also make the ultimate sacrifice? I guess they won’t know what for at this point. Would Island Sawyer, right now at this moment in time, believe Desmond if he said “kill yourself, because if you don’t millions would die including yourself”. I think he would decline and prefer to take his chances.
So if the island losties are joined with the consciousness of the sideways losties then what does that change, what will they gain and what will they now know that they didn’t before…how the World will look with evil destroying it.
Have Desmond ask island Sawyer the same question now and he maybe inclined to “blow up the damn rock”
The ultimate sacrifice made by everyone to prevent everyone else from dying, the few for so many. Then it can end…
I did notice as well that Jack on the island now has a nice scar down his neck from when the missile attack happened at the end of the last episode!

caps_locke, Sun’s recollection of Locke being Nemesis on ‘the island’ was one of the best scenes in the last episode. It definitely opens the door to what some of the other ‘losties’ might recall when they have their moment of recall.
I’m sure Nemesis is hoping to get to the ‘alternate’, but am almost feeling like this is the trap that has been laid for him…
Great thoughts.
