The Temple’s Electric Bill…”Tell Your Brother to Turn Off the Light…”

I know where the well is that Jacob threw his brother in…its in the TEMPLE!!!

I dont know if this is just common knowledge, and Im stupid and missed it, or if its something new…
Either way, I just thought of it, and want to throw it out there.

Jacob puts the others in place to help the temple…trying to show his brother that people are good, and are willing to risk their lives to help save the light. He believes people can do good…

MIB, is hell bent on proving Jacob wrong…so what does he do…tries and sway people the other way. He succeeds by offering Sayid “whatever he wants most in the world” to kill Dogen, and finish off the job…which he obliges to…

If he can ultimately prove Jacob wrong…he will be allowed to go “home”, which is at the very least across the sea…whether the island is a part of that is yet to be determined. To win the game, and truly kill Jacob…He must succeed in both…
Benjamin Linus was the first step to get through the loophole, ie…taking a person who is capable of good, as we see in the FSW, and actually convincing him to not just kill many people, but his own father…and not just his own father…but his “lord and savior”…in flesh and blood with his own hand!!!

What MIB didnt count on was having the other Losties be so stubborn in doing good. He didnt count on Hurley using a Star Wars reference to amp up the Losties to leave the dark side, and jump ship back to the force…He didnt count on Sayid of all people sacrificing himself to save anothers life…possibly giving up “what he wants most”.

Also…MIB knew Locke wasnt just some pathetic fool…lets not forget, he lies quite often.
He eventually got to use his body because of that, but I believed he eliminated John Locke because he was the hope of the people…he may not be the candidate in the end (although I dont rule it out)…but he definitely played the role of “man of faith”, in having faith in man…

He always gave people the benefit of the doubt, Charlie, Eko, even Jack…
He always believed that jack was supposed to stay, no matter what Jack said or did…even after he tried to kill him…remember when the gun wasnt loaded?

John Locke may have actually known what to do…somewhere in the back of his head..the question is…in the FSW, does he know now?

Keep an ear out, I really think that when Jacob died, the light may have went out…hence the “dirty” water…
Maybe it dimmed, maybe it wasnt the main source…maybe it was just the most direct connection…Jacob knew this from sending MIB down there, and built the temple to protect the one thing that matters most…the light…

Whether a scientific disaster in the future, The Light of God, or Hell itself…Jacob has seen the power it possesses, and will do anything possible to protect it…even die.

But someone else has to protect it once he is gone…and it cannot go out…I feel like I have a double sided coin with jacks face on both…but I still cant help but feel that Locke will intervene, and be the one who stays.

I dont think that BOTH a new Jacob and MIB are necessary… if there is a balance between black and white inside an individual…Hell maybe Locke will end up on the beach talking to Locke…

Let me hear what you think…and as always…Thank you for your time.

  1. I like this for the reason that it explains the most overlooked mystery this show still has….the healing water. It’s as if everyone has forgotten all about it. I think it’s the most solid evidence that we have (aside from time jumping) that the island is extremely special.

For what it’s worth, I still think Widmore wants the power behind the water for his own wealth. (Wrote a theory about it right after LA X)

…..And You weren’t joking either, this theory really got buried in a hurry.

  2. I don’t think you are stupid and missed this. I had the same thought after Mommy Dearest showed Jacob and Brother the light. And as Chief has pointed out, a lot of people are overlooking the healing water mystery, and also the Islands healing properties as well. All this water flowing into the Light must God somewhere and it isn’t a stretch to make a claim that it permeates the Island and nourishes the plant life.

I’m actually reminded of the film “The Fountain.” It tells three stories set in three different time periods. Each of the stories has the Tree of Life from which a spring flows from. One could view the Light on the Island in a similar manner. The water flowing into the Light may exit somewhere and flow into the ocean where it enters the eco system of the planet and eventually into ourselves.

I also like your idea that Smokey underestimated Locke and his Faith. If it doesn’t destroy Smokey it will alter him.

  3. In reference to temple being built at the tunnel light; I don’t think it’s common knowledge just yet..I’ve wondered the same thing myself, wondering where this tunnel of light actually is on the island.. Three guesses; 1. Temple 2. The tunnel that leads to Jughead 3. Hidden so nobody could ever find it (like MIB couldn’t find)

I would love for it to be the tunnel that leads to Jughead, but I can think of evidence that contradicts; water flows into light tunnel, and the fact that Jughead tunnel was completely immersed. I just think it would be cool if the Egyptians went into the tunnel, and started building the temple from within like we saw at the Jughead scene.

But one thing I look forward to knowing for sure is (hopefully next episode, running out of time!), was the temple, tunnels, and 4 toe statue built before or after Jacob’s arrival to the island? It fits with the rest of your writings in this theory that it was afterward, such as Jacob putting the Others in place of the Temple..I agree, I think thats where show is going.. It would be cool though if it was actually before, and there was an entire culture there before, that died off; which could be why Mother believed people inherently evil, from her experience with that culture..don’t know.. I’m believing the first theory..we’ll soon know..

Last thing I wanted to say, I feel like you completely got jipped on this theory, since yours was the 9th or 10th posted of brand new theories, and they only show 8 on the home page.. I had to view all to find it!

Oh one last thing, the title with “Tell Your Brother to Turn off Light” I completely don’t get..some joke or reference to show? Way over my head, seems like Achalli got it…

  4. Thanks Chief…I definitely think Widmore is on a personal agenda…he keeps saying its HIS island…I cant help but think he may actually know more than ANYONE else about the truth…with that being said, I also think he may be the worst person who could possibly acquire this power…

Really makes you think about the role Ben will play in the remainder of the show.

Also, just thinking about the water and MIB…and Jack…

When Jack talked to him about why he posed as his father, Flocke said it was because Jack needed to find the water…
I find it funny that Jack also found the stones and bodies as well…where are the stones now I wonder?

  5. Thanks Achalli…I did see the first 45 minutes of the fountain…twice…and fell asleep…twice…

It seemed good, and I just couldnt make it all the way…someone else asked me before. I have seen nearly the whole thing…just not in order.

I like your thoughts on the flow of the water into the ocean…very thought provoking…makes sense in a very simple way…yet mind bending to think about as well…

I have to keep my faith in Locke…I made it this far…so why not…

  6. Bobt…good thought about the jugghead tunnel…really thinking about it, its actually quite similar to the temple water source as well…good thoughts indeed…

I question the same things about the temple and statue…
I really think that because we have seen the statue in every other flashback with Jacob and MIB, because we didnt see it this time, it hasnt been built yet…

I know its presumptuous…no need for anyone to say that it could just be somewhere else…

Because I think the temple is the same thing that Jacob threw MIB in, or even what you say about where jugghead was…it makes the most sense to me that Jacob was bringing people to the island to protect the light, which just so happens to be where the temple is now…

They sealed it the best they could from MIB…

I really think the most important thing we will learn will be what the ring of ask-like powder is that keeps MIB out…

It makes sense to be some EM, magnet type of stuff, being prepared with the light/energy of the island…but Im prepared to hear a more spiritual/alchemist type of answer as well.

The title…yes, more of a joke than anything…a little referencing in there as well…
Hey…if the “light” is in the temple…maybe it will be more funny…
    ;]

  7. I havent said it yet, but I cant help but feel that the mother of “Across the Sea”, not Claudia, but FMom…I think she was about as close to the wicked witch we will see on Lost…Hence my post, “Ding Dong”…

I think they threw out a little clue with the episode of “What Kate Did”, her mother being a former “Sabrina” star, and the name “Joan Hart”…possibly incinuating that because Kate raised Aaron as “mother” raised Jacob and “Brother”…she may actually play the next role as “mother” on the island…

Everyone wonders why she is here…maybe shes Glenda, the good Witch…the white witch…maybe even the next candidate…

I think Aaron is quite vital to Kates role on the island…
I really think that kate has proved her worth as a person and in her own redemption…

She has come a long way with what she “does” now, compared to what she “did”…

I really have the faintest idea of what her purpose is…but the further it goes untouched…the bigger I feel it may be…

That being said…my old shop teacher could count the episodes remaining on one hand….so that tells you how important I think Kate is…

  8. Didn’t anyone else notice that in the seen where Jacob and his Brother are sitting on a log looking across the sea is the same beach where the statue will be located? Go back and look at that scene.

  9. Thats what I thought!!!
    Good eye…
I even noted in another comment that from where the beach is, you would easily be able to see the statue.

The caves obviously are not on the other side of the island completely…I really think between the statue, the temple, and some dharma answers, we very well may see the past.

I cant imagine them leaving things like that up in the air…although I guess in the main point…they are not really necessary…but I still have faith they will be answered…

  10. A.E.S – thank you for mentioning Kate (comment 8). Since the last episode I have been thinking about Kate’s importance because as much as the fans dislike her (hehe ok not speaking for all, but I have read that she annoys a lot of people out there!) I can’t stop thinking about:

    – Her name being crossed out in the cave, but not on the lighthouse wheel
    – She helped Claire deliver Aaron, as Mother helped Claudia deliver the twins
    – The way she was always running back between Jack and Sawyer always seemed so flaky, but after the last episode – Mother’s treatment of Jacob & Brother kind of reminded me of this behaviour
    – Jacob touched all of the remaining candidates (THE numbers) – and Kate! Why Kate?
    – The flashback in the last episode of Jack and Kate finding the skeletons in the cave. At first I thought, why are the writers showing us this, we remember the skeletons! But if you watch Kate’s face as Jack says that one of the skeletons is female, well, I know I’m looking too much into it but it’s kinda eerie…

We only have a few hours left of Lost, and you are probably right, Kate probably isn’t important enough to have any mysteries mentioned above explained. But let’s just say I will not be surprised if she does end up being important in some way to the end, Jacob touching her is the thing that bugs me the most..

Oh and in regards to the tunnel that leads to Jughead – correct me if I’m wrong but, is this not the “area” that is below the Dharma barracks ie. therefore where Ben once unplugged that plug-thing when he summoned Smokey? If so, does Smokey coming out of that area bear any significance?

  11. I’m not sure that the Temple is where the light is. Remember, Locke said something to the effect of ~I looked into the heart of the island…and it was beautiful!~ I’m thinking he saw what mother showed Jacob & MIB. However, I do believe that the Temple was built over an outlet of the creek/river that goes through the light. The water flows into the light, and it must/should come out somewhere else.

  12. Good stuff…. based on what I’m reading here, it does seem like the statue and temple are not there during “Across the Sea” – even though I just wrote a theory about the opposite :0. Looks like I’ll have to add a comment to my theory!

If the statue and temple are not there during Across the Sea, it would explain the Smoke Monster in the Hieroglyphics sitting across from Anubis (in the temple catacombs)… the Smoke Monster exists/is freed by then because of Jacob’s brother entering the cave. But how do Egyptians from BC times come to the Island after the Roman villagers from early AD? Is it a timeloop or a time bend (like the time bend that effected the rocket that Faraday timed, but on a much larger scale)?

Great thought about the temple being over the Source… I like the idea, and even if it is not exactly correct I definitley believe it is connected to the water source that runs through the Light….

Re: Kate, Claire and Aaron – I feel like something very important awaits this combinstation of individuals, though what? Is Kate a proxy for Mother? And what about Aaron, who was born on the island?

    Ah so many questions….

  13. I thought about the temple being built over it as well but I don’t think Jacob would let it be that obvious. The light is tough to find and they’ve seen the temple walls before. You would think smokie could find it if they were able to locate it and build a temple. Unless Jacob set up Dogen and others with ash to keep smokie out.but I like the idea and enjoyed the theory.
