Hi AES, very nice read as per usual!

Now is the last time I will be online until after I see the finale, I'm on the other side of the world so I won't be watching it until about 12 hours after you guys will be so I don't want to be spoiled... so I thought I would do what Desmond did with "Our Mutual Friend", and have an "AES-theory" be the last thing I read before the big finale...

I like what you said about the writers and the show, I too have accepted what they have given us and I don't think I will be disappointed with the ending, however it will end. I have enjoyed the journey, being as much interwoven with the lives of the Losties as they are with each other that I'm sure whatever does happen in the end, will happen for a reason.

I too believe that David is going to be significant in the end, and great point in mentioning James' daughter, and Desmond's son - we are most probably going to see the Losties placed in compromising situations.

I am rooting for Juliet to be David's mother. If Juliet and Sawyer meet in the finale and live happily ever after, and Jack and Kate meet and get together, David is going to have an epic set of parents and step-parents! ;)

I'm on the redemption/karma path, I truly believe that the lives of the Losties in the FSW are as a result of their actions on the island. I am going to stick with this until I see the finale, and what would make me happy to see, because I truly think Sayid redeemed himself...is if Shannon made an appearance in the FSW in the finale.

I've just re-watched Season 2, and I think everyone has forgotten that Sayid declared his love to Shannon. I don't listen to podcasts or read-up on Lost rumours so maybe people have given up on Shannon because it's been reported that the actress isn't coming back? I'm not sure, but, I'm just gonna hold onto this because Sayid put his life on the line numerous times for the Losties, something good has got to happen for him. He said to MIB "the love of my life died in my arms". Both Nadia and Shannon died in his arms in the original timeline. So Sayid is a playa? That's ok with me, love is love, you can't help how you feel about a person...

I have not given up on Jacob, I realise he is not "good", but I don't think he is evil. Although I felt sorry for MIB in Across the Sea, I felt just as bad for Jacob. We expected Jacob to know better, but, all he knew was what he had been taught from Mother, this senile lady who smashed his birth mother to death. MIB knew better, but that's because he had insight, he was special, poor ol' Jacob was just - regular. It was like Jacob was suffering from Stockholm syndrome, ok, nothing like what real Stockholm syndrome sufferers have gone through!! But while Wikipedi-ing that term, I found that a psychiatrist had described it as a "primitive gratitude for the gift of life", which is how and why I feel Jacob was so loyal to Mother, and was so devastated by her death that he did what he did to Brother.

I will not be surprised if Jacob has had a hand in orchestrating the FSW... purely from the point of view that the Losties that he hand-picked, are now leading better lives. Maybe he granted their karma, their re-birth, after they redeemed themselves on the island.

Ah gosh I'm sorry for hijacking your thread-wall! Will catch you and everyone else (hopefully nobody jumps off a cliff after it) after the finale :)

Holy cow! I think you're right. After rereading that conversation it does appear that they are going to ...yeah, that's it, Guam. Yeah that's it Guam. Wink wink nudge nudge.

This is the conversation between Hurley, Ana Lucia, and Desmond off island...does it sound like they are just going to a concert...or does it sound more like "This plane's headed for Guam"...?

"HURLEY: Oh, hey, you didn’t tell me Ana Lucia was gonna be here.
ANA LUCIA: Do I know you, tubby?
HURLEY: Oh, no. We never met. Anyways, here’s your money. A hundred twenty-five grand, right?
ANA LUCIA: Yeah, that’r right. Nice not knowing you.
HURLEY: She’s not coming with us?
DESMOND: No, she’s not ready yet.
HURLEY: I brought you my Camaro. The keys are under the floor mat. Everything else you need’s in the trunk.
DESMOND: All right, good. . . Um, you know where you’re taking them, yeah?
HURLEY: Absolutely.
DESMOND: All right, well, we should get going. [to Sayid} Okay, you’re with him, and you’re with me.
KATE: What do you mean, I’m with you?
DESMOND: We . . . are going to a concert. [hands Kate a black dress] Let’s go."

I cant help but think that the island is not done with them yet...even in the FSW...

A very good theory as always AES. First I am glad that you brought up the subject of choice. As you are aware, but some others here may not be aware, I've advocated the position that everyone has a choice simply with the ability to say 'NO.' With Jack stepping up to the plate to take over from Jacob, Jack is effectively saying 'NO' to Brother Smokey and all he stands for. As long as their is another possibility to consider, everyone has a choice.

Now on to the subject of getting the answers from the show and how the writers have been handling it. One of my earliests post (I am going over this again for the benefit of those who may have not seen it), entitled "Fallout, could Lost Be Going the Way Of The Prisoner," I discussed how, like Lost, fans of The Prisoner were hounding the writer/creator of the show for the answers to the questions of what the Village was, who controlled the Village, and who was No. 1. On the surface the finale of the Prisoner not only seemed to not answer anything, it seemed to destroy the whole show all together. However, if one really thought about what the show was all about (thinking for yourself, you are the only one controlling your life) the finale actually answered all the questions, just not in the way the fans expected. with seeing how a lot of people are reacting here to how the writers are tying everything up I'm convinced now more than ever that they are attempting to pull of a similar feat with the ending of Lost. what ever happens in the end i will walk away with experiencing one of the best shows I have ever seen and will continue to rewatch it for years to come.

I would also like to point out that with any journey/quest that the end is never as important as what was learned and experienced on the journey. What the characters have gone through has had more impact than what they may find at the end.

Another thing would be to look back at the show and realized they have answered a lot already. The numbers for instance. Although we all are aware of the Valenzetti Equation, to the best of my knowledge no one has actually ever mentioned it on screen. The only place we see the numbers pop up in relation to DHARMA at the beginning is when they are imprinted on the door to the Swan. Pure and simple; although admitedly I may be proven wrong by the finale but until then that is the answer to the numbers.

My final piece of advice is to do one of two things: do as Chiefof16 has said and wait until you have seen the finale before making judgement, or you should just not expect to be given the answers easilly and work it out for yourself.

I never get disappointed when I see a new AES theory in the list..great post again. Really, it all makes so much sense. If Juliet ends up with Sawyer in FSW, which I think she will, David will be 'motherless' then and thus needs Jack in his life.

It would be a good twist if Jack indeed doesn't end up being the last man standing on the island. But on the other hand, I want him to be the last man standing, I want him to take down "Locke" in a final ultimate standoff. But I guess that's why him not ending up as Leader would be a good twist, because it's pretty unexpected and it would make for a twist putting the entire season in a different perspective.

Will probably be readin this again later, I gotta hurry now.

Im looking at what I can find on Lostpedia...it only shows them all around the fire from a distance...I cannot tell...but Jacks shirt may be covering the tattoos.

I caught it in the episode airing, seems kind of stupid if they are there... and Ive been hoping someone else would bring it up...
