The Island and everything that happened there was real. Everyone who survived went on to live their lives and eventually died. Their "souls" all met up in the FSW, which was kind of like a limbo/purgatory type thing. And Hurley shot up Charlie because he wanted him to be with Claire. Yes, he didn't really give him a choice, but he was doing a great thing for his friend. He did it to make Charlie happy. Deep soul enema... Nice :) They didn’t die in the 815 crash.
