@ elswhere: your statement: But, I keep thinking back to that scene of Desmond in the Monastery, where him and Brother Campbell have the conversation about Abraham sacrificing Isaac, and how Desmond underestimates the power of sacrifice…

brilliant! great tie-in... and like you say, I too believe that sacrifice will be a big theme tonight - just like Charlie sacrificed his life, who/what will those that remain have to sacrifice? Will Jack have to give up his son, or Desmond his? And who else? Ben? Sawyer, Hurley, Kate...?

We have already seen Sayid's sacrifice in the current timeline, as well as Jin's when he stayed with Sun....

Yeah, I really think David will be symbolic and represent something of a dilemma and a choice for Jack. On one hand you have Desmond who only has a son in the original timeline, and then you have Jack who only has a son in the ALT. Seems to present something of a pickle, if you ask me! That is, if in the end one reality trumps the other! And, Desmond's motives at this point do seem a bit unclear and troublesome to me!

But, I keep thinking back to that scene of Desmond in the Monastery, where him and Brother Campbell have the conversation about Abraham sacrificing Isaac, and how Desmond underestimates the power of sacrifice...

Eloise Hawking for example chose to sacrifice her son, all while knowing what would happen to him on the island... But, yet she was rewarded for this sacrifice, as she was given back her son in the ALT.

Just wondering who will have to make the ultimate sacrifice in the end... and who will be rewarded? Is David up for sacrifice?

I enjoyed reading this - and being a music lover - I would certainly enjoy music being a catalyst for the merge.

@ Elsewhere - great catch about David! I'm with you and AES in thinking that David holds some importance in the upcoming concert and event(s) to follow... the fact that David does not exist in the original timeline certainly must be meaningful... And I also agree with AES about the potential for Jack being diverted away from his role as the Guardian of the island.

Great comments -

@AES, I too question Desmond motives - it is interesting that he has been violent towards Locke and Ben, but no one else... If we take Ben for example – Desmond's attack on him makes it seem as if his (Ben's) choices in the ALT, which have made him respectable and good, are almost irrelevant…

He did also play that piece, and I definitely think he will be important in the scene during the concert...maybe for more than just his music...as you say elsewhere...David is the only one that we know of that did not exist in the past timeline, which has to make him some sort of symbol of...something.

I really think it is going to be important that Jack be with him...eventually taking him out of the running as island protector.

Hello Clairespeanutbutter: I enjoy reading your theories. They will be missed once this is all over. :(

Quick question? Wasn't that also the same piece of music that David Shephard played at his audition? If so, it seems that, that particular piece of music may be of some importance... good catch.

I like your thoughts on Faraday, but I also wonder if David will be of some significant importance at this gathering, considering he is the only person (that I am aware of) who didn't exist in the original timeline.

Great thoughts CPB...I am excited for the concert and the finale too.

I couldnt help but question the same thing in my own post, with different ideas of who could all be there, maybe even playing along...
I also couldnt help but think about Desmond trying to "show" people things through violence, and have to question his exact motive and plan in the long run of all of the FSW mayhem...

Greats thoughts in your time here, and great last theory, always love reading your posts...cant wait to see what happens, and how it goes over on this site in particular.
