What/Who is the smoke monster?
I thought Smokey was MIB but MIB(Jacobs Brother) was just a man & I know smokey while looking like Locke talking about himself as MIB is what made me think smokey is actually a person somehow but what if Smokey is just acting like Jacobs bro, just like smokey has done throughout the entire show (Flocke).
Remember the conversation Flocke & Ben had after they landed flight 316, they totally had me sold that it was indeed Locke but it isnt even his body. Same situation with MIB’s body, we have seen MIB’s bones still where Jacob left them & Im sure the real John Locke is still buried.
Anyways the conversation Flocke & Ben had was just like the one Flocke has with Kate when he is talking about himself which we assume is MIB but really is it?
They have fooled us before so they might be doing it again & the smoke could be on a mission all on its own.

If that were true, that Smokey is just using Jacob’s brother’s story as his own to garner sympathy from the Losties, couldn’t he have picked any story he liked, one with perhaps more influence? The Losties have no way of verifying any of that because they never knew Jacob or any of this story.
It’s like when you ask a person what the French translation of any English word is when you don’t know any French; they could give you any nonsense French word and you’d have no idea whether they were being honest or not cuz you don’t know any French yourself. Likewise, the Losties don’t know any of that information to begin with, so there’s nothing to compare it or contrast it to.

It really isnt important that the Losties know who he is because it really wouldnt matter but maybe thats why he looks like Locke now because the Losties obviously relate to him.
I think Jacob’s brother was killed by Jacob & the way he did it released the smoke monster, I think that the smoke has some ways to access memories or something like that cause he started talking about things that happened to the real John Locke before John was killed & before John’s dead body arrived.
So Smokey might be duplicating Jacob’s brother the same way he duplicates John, maybe it has something to do with the flashes & that light in the cave.
I understand what you mean by the story he told to Kate could of been anything but what if it was for us the viewers to believe that smokey is somehow human & what not but what if smokey is exactly what Jacob described him as, Evil & shouldnt be able to escape & so on.
Jacob looked very surprised when he first saw the smoke so he obviously had no idea what it was but by the time Richard arrives in the 1800’s Jacob seems to have a good idea of what it is & what he has to do.
Wouldnt that kill you if the smoke came back to you as your dead brother that you killed kind of accidentally just to keep trying to figure out ways to kill you?

The thing is…why the charades with Richard?
Why tell Kate about his crazy mother, or especially mess with jacob with the rocks.
Its so obvious that MIb becomes annoyed when handed the white stone by Richard…they are brother playing a game, which is why MIB/Locke is smug when entering the cave and throws out the white stone from the scale into the ocean…

I get that but Jacobs brother’s body is in the cave where Jacob left him, So I think Smokey took over his image if you will and is now playing the game to get off the Island.
Idk what to think anymore but I really think Smokey is Evil & the way he talked to Jacob about men & the Island while the Black Rock was in view.
I thought they just werent human the way both of them were talking about us people, like the were angels or something that didnt understand human emotion or get it completely but in fact they were just men before.

Does anybody else find it weird that it was sunny & beautiful when MIB & Jacob were looking at the Black Rock but later sometime there is a HUGE storm causing HUGE waves?

The whole “come, fight, destroy, and corrupt” speech was said by their mother before him.
His words on the beach seemed to further he is actually MIB, Jacobs brother, not the monster.
Its like Locke said in the airport…the body was Lost, not the man…huge clue I think…

A.E.S - re. the latest episode, I also thought about what Locke said in the airport regarding the body being lost but not the man.. I definitely think that is a big clue as well
