Therefore it solidly appears the Incident was the cause whether it was the event of the EMR pocket being ruptured or the nuke detonating. I go with the former. Sci-Fi fun! There was no mention of the problem on the island prior to 197x when Ethan was born? And 2001 is when Juliet was brought to the Island (if memory serves for this and the rest of my assumptions) to research the problem. One thing comes to mind is the Incident which I thought was caused by the DI drilling into the High EMR pocket and the making of the button in the Hatch. Not to say time travel or the cause and effect of time travel had not been a factor. Perhaps high levels of EMR is the root cause for both cases (child rearing and dying time travelers).
