The scales of justice in Widmore’s law office appear to have both black and white stones on them, similar to the one in the cave. In the painting the scales seem to be perfectly balanced. Perhaps in this alternate reality both Jacob and Nemesis powers are balanced or do not exist? Not sure but I found it interesting and thought I would share.

I follow both of the producers of lost on twitter and last night Damon Lindelof tweeted last night that “In one week, the conversation is going to change.” I hope this means that next weeks episode is going to give us a lot of answers….but lets be real if the conversation is changing it probably means we will be asking more questions. Thoughts?

As a side note: his bio on twitter says “Yeah, I’m one of the idiots behind LOST. And I have NO IDEA who’s coming to the island!” I’m not sure if I should laugh at this and hope he is mocking everyone who doubts them or is serious and we are all screwed.

After reading Achalli’s post yesterday on the Jinnhttp://www.theoriesonlost.com/2010/03/jinn/ I really got to thinking about it and so much of what he said made perfect sense. I was going to include what I found as a comment to his post but my research took me in so many places that I decided it best to make a whole separate post. I want to really thank Achalli for bringing this theory to my attention and for his initial findings on it that he shared with us. From what I have found on the Jinn and more and more he stuff I have found seems to be adding up. Most of what we know about Jinn’s seems to be come from the Qu’ran and Islamic beliefs.

In the last episode the devil or Satan was reference quite a bit. Satan was a Jinn and not a fallen angel according to Islam. Satan was the Jinn who refused to fall prostrate before Adam after he was created. He is the leader of evil ones in the world. This is why he must be contained because if he is released then he will lead all that is evil in this world straight to hell. Dogen also said that Flocke is “evil incarnate,” and being a Christian myself this immediately made me think of Satan as it is told in the Christian Bible.

Jinn’s have the ability to choose between good and evil. Dogen said that within everyman lies good and evil. Well, MIB Jinn could have chosen between good and evil and he chose evil and this is why Jacob has tried to show him that there is good because he can come back to the good side, but he has to choose to come back. Some philosophers (both modern and contemporary) claim that the jinn refer to those evil inclinations in the souls of mankind while the angels refer to the good intentions planned by mankind. Jacob is an angel and MIB is a Jinn. Jacob truly believes in the good intentions of man and tries to help in the planning and executing of those good intentions.

Apparently, humans do not have the ability to see them in their true form.. However, such animals as dogs are believed to be able to see them. Perhaps if they ever bring Vincent back then it will show that he was able to see MIB in his true form all along. Also, the jinn have the ability to take on the shapes of humans and animals. According to Islamic religion, on the day of the battle of Badr, Satan approached the Prophet’s enemies in the form of a man called ‘Suraqa Ibn Malik’ and promised them aid and triumph. This sounds identical to what Flocke did after the Tempel purge. He promised to help those who came with him. He also promised Sawyer that he would aid him in his quest to get off the island.

The Qur’an tells us that the jinn have been given such power and ability to which humans have no access. Of these great speed is the most significant. We have been told that a stalwart of the jinn promised King Solomon that it would only take him a shorter time than that taken by someone standing from his sitting place to bring the throne of Sheba to Jerusalem. In Ab episode MIB says that he will see Jacob sooner then he thinks, which seems to tie into this ability to speed up progress.

Muslims believe that for his punishment, Allah sentenced Satan to eternity in Hell. However, at Satan’s request, Allah permitted him to roam the earth and misguide man until the Day of Judgment. MIB Jinn has been misguiding the Losties throughout their journey here. I think the biggest way he has been doing this is through whispers. Jinn and his minions are “whisperers”, who whisper into the hearts of men and women, urging them to commit sin. This is where the desire to sin comes from, according to Islam. Maybe the whispers we have been hearing are from MIB and the people who has been able to infect (his minions) whispering to them to commit sins.

Like humans, the jinn cannot go beyond the limits set to them by Allah, for He says in the Qur’an:“assembly of jinn and men! If you have power to pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, then pass beyond (them)! But you will never be able to pass them, except with authority (from Allah!)”(55:33). Jacob said that no one goes in the statute (and I’m thinking off the island or other places on the island) until he says so. Jacob put Dogen in place and was able to make it so that MIB could not go into the temple until Dogen was dead.

So there it is. I hope this helps anyone who was as intrigued as I was with Achalli’s post.

In last nights episode I got so excited when we learned that the man who was hiring Richard was Magnus Hanso was the great grandfather of Alvar Hanso. Alvar is the one responsible for the Valenzetti Equation and is linked with Dharma. I was a little surprised that right when Richard is waking up we learn that Hanso is dead. I thought for sure he would live and then would be the one who started to first learn of the islands magic properties and we would see him exploring the island once they crashed. Maybe when they said they were going to the “new world” they were referring to the island all along. Also, the blast door map contains the notation “known final resting place of Magnus Hanso/Black Rock” (lostpedia) which appears to be near the black rock. I’m really hoping more about the start of Dharma comes out in the episodes to come.

The yellow folder that Jack’s mother pulls out of the bookshelf has Arabic writing on it. The writing seems to be “يعقوب ٦٧٢”. The word part reads as Ya’qub which is the Arabic version of the name Jacob and the number part either reads 672 which adds up to 15 (Sawyers number). This could further a few theories I have read that suggest that Jack and Jacob are family.

The last will and testament was mailed to Christian Shepherd at 233 Bastian Drive. 233 was the house number for David’s mother’s house (23).

I found it very interesting that Ben said he teaches European History….in trying to figure out more about the black ash and what it could possibly be I found some interesting connections between Ash Tree’s and European mythology. I know this is a bit of a stretch but I love history so my lost inquiries usually take these type of approaches…..

What I discovered was that Yggdrasil, the World Tree in Viking mythology, grew on an island surrounded by the ocean, in the depths of which the World Serpent lay. Like the Vikings, the Gaels also thought of the ash tree (which they called uinsinn, pronounced ooshin) as protective. Of the five legendary guardian trees of Ireland, three were ash. Ash is also the second most popular tree growing beside Irish holy wells, and on the Isle of Man ash trees were said to protect the purity of springs.

Second, In British folklore the ash was credited with a range of protective and healing properties, most frequently related to child health. Newborn babies were popularly given a teaspoon of ash sap. Ailing children, especially those suffering with rupture or weak limbs, would be passed naked through a cleft in an ash tree or ash sapling, to cure them. The cleft was often specifically made for the purpose and bound together again after the ceremony to heal over as the child also healed. Some folklore then suggested an intimate bond between the welfare and fate of the now related tree and person, with harm to the tree being reflected in the healed persons life, leading people to become understandably protective of ëtheirí ash tree.

The biggest things that jumped out to me about all of this was 1) children on the island seem to be very important, and perhaps the children and/or ash have something to do with the temple waters healing power. 2) Vikings saw ash as protective and 3) that the World Tree grew on an island.

Just something to think about. I think the producers are always bringing in many different cultural references and this could be another one of them that they drew inspiration from.

This is my first post on here so go a little easy on me 🙂 A lot of focus in multiple theories seems to be on Egyptian symbolism and culture, which I admit is not unfounded considering the hieroglyphics etc. But, while I have been going back through the seasons and re-watching them (because the week in between episodes is killing me) I can’t help but notice the connections between Hinduism and India that are present in the series.

First I looked at the nut of the Rudraksh tree that can be found in parts of the Himalayas, Indonesia and Malaysia. Rudraksh beads represent Lord Shiva, part of the divine Hindu trinity. This very powerful and auspicious charm bestows spiritual powers, good health, fame and material happiness. Rudraksh beads are used for making 108 bead rosaries for chanting Mantras, so as to increase the effect and power of the Mantra. Although these rosaries are a product of the ancient Vedic period, through modern science, we now know that the figure ‘108’ is of particular relevance, as the distance between the Earth and the Sun is approximately 108 times the Sun’s diameter. The Sun’s diameter is about 108 times that of the Earth’s. The distance between the Earth and the Moon is approximately 108 times the Moon’s diameter. It is perhaps possible that the ancient sages determined that there 108 steps between our ordinary human awareness and our inner divinity. As to how they determined the distances between these celestial bodies, with such accuracy, remains a mystery.

Second, Tripurasuras are three Demons who have Innumerable Powers. They live in three Purams which are built in the sky and revolve in space. The Purams are protected by a boon from Lord Ganesh and nobody can harm them, unless they come into a single axis. That moment comes only once in every Thousand years. Prayed by all gods Lord Shiva decided to kill those Demons. He did a big Tapasya with half-closed eyes. (Ardha Nimeelita neetra). He opened his eyes, concentrated on the axis and burnt Tripurams. Due to the stress caused by Tapasya, tears came out his eyes while opening them. They turned into Rudrakshas. I conneected this with Flocke killing Jacob. They were living on different “axis” and had to come into a single one, just as Jacob and MIB did.

Third, the meaning behind Rudraksha:The most important word is “Aksha”, which tells us many details about Rudraksha. Aksha means “Eye”. It resembles the Third eye of Lord Shiva, Fire, which protects us from Passion and Death. Aksha means “Borne out of eye”. The tears, which came after 1000 years Tapasya done by Lord Shiva. Rudraksha relieves stress and greatly helps in reaching desired goal. Our Losties are trying to reach their desired goals, especially Locke. The eye continues to be a symbol throughout the show. Also, Aksha means “Axis”. The concentration of Shiva in the war. Everybody needs concentration. Aksha means “View to chase the target”: A Clear Vision to reach goal. Another important meaning of Aksha is “Joining axis of Tripurams”. This gives a purely Philosophical meaning. Tripurasuras resemble Trigunas (Tamas, Rajas and Satwa). They live in Tripurams (Sthula, Sukshma and Karana Sareerams) One can attain Salvation only after winning these three. We can’t win them one by one. They merge at a single point called “Deha bhranti” (Feeling of one-self as a separate identity) . We have to target it and win them at once. I believe eventually once the goals have been reached by the Losties they will be able to merge into one timeline. It is not until they can real their goals that this will happen.

Finally, Lord Shiva has 108 different names by which he is called by. I read an earlier theory which linked the 42 commandment sins in Egypt to different people…so I started thinking of the names in this manner as well, but I wasn’t sure who would fit each of the names. If you look at #4 “Anagha” this means Without Fault. #8 Bhairav means Lord of Terror. #15 Chandraprakash means “One Who Has Moon As A Crest” #16 Dayalu means Compassionate #23 Durjaya means “Unvanquished” #42 is means Lord of Lingas. Lingas it should be noted is one means worships in a temple, which of course we know our new Others worship in a temple.

So there it is. Not much of a theory I guess but just some connections Ive noticed that intrigued me into doing a little research.
