Anger focus on/off island
I was flushing out a theory and need input on these questions/ideas.
MIB has some mommy issues. (In fact, where Daddy issues were the early seasons, the later ones seem Mommy-issue oriented + Kate’s mom turned her in.)
Anyway, MIB seems to have focused his anger so finely that he’s not really mad at other people (except crazy moms). Sayid stabs him and it’s only, “Now, why’d you go and do that?!” He justs offs the temple people ‘cuz he didn’t want to die. He genuinely thinks he’s helping people and is a nice guy. Heck, he didn’t even seem angry at Jacob (just wanted to kill him. Could it be if it IS Jacob/Esau he could go home AND get his birthright back? Ironic how Esau was so hairy you couldn’t tell him from a sheep and how he’s baldy-Lockes. Anyway…)
Now, it makes sense that “(t)hey come, they fight, they destroy, they corrupt, It always ends the same.” In his world, you ‘get through it’ by focusing on your anger. He probably ‘helps’ people by manipulates them using their anger. Focusing it.
We see it in his recruits
Claire – Aaron (to ‘the Others’)
Sayid – Nadia (Ben used her, too, off-island)
Sawyer – Juliet (Heck, he’s got freckles, now – but REALLY should mad about A.Cooper … he’s not really an enthusiastic recruit as much as working on a con to get off the island.)
What could he use for the rest?
Sun – Jin (and vice/versa … btw, used off-island, too)
Ben – Alex and Jacob’s indifference (didn’t work)
Themselves … (which isn’t as effective)
Kate – (was her dead biostepfather off-island, now it’s taking Aaron – though not-so-much)
Hurley
Jack
Indeed, Kate’s kinda’ motivated by love (for Aaron – does this make her the non-crazy mom to lure/soften MIB or the candidate?)
Jack’s finding his way.
Hurley ?
This brings wondering … were these people manipulated off-island? How does it relate to the final/true candidate?
[BTW: Littleton is mentioned as a candidate – did Jacob touch her? If so, when? (Or, is it Christian?]
It only ends once. (And apparently, in the US it’s Sunday, May 23rd.)
