Mr Linus’ final gameplan

Ben killed Widmore as Charles whispered something important to Flocke.

In the first scene we saw Ben and Charles together way back (season 4?), Ben had creeped into his bedroom off island and they had that ambiguous conversation which shed a little light on the rules.
Ben could have just as easily exacted his revenge for Alex’s death then and there, but couldn’t, as the rules wouldn’t allow it.
What changed the rules for Ben?
It reminded me of the scene where Locke was on the verge of commiting suicide until Ben saved him at the last second. As soon as John mentioned Ms Hawkings name, Linus mercilessly strangled him. Why?

It made me realize, we still aren’t certain of Ben motives, maybe he is still on some mission that he is keeping well hidden. Ben always seems to know more than he has let on, what does he know and what has he been up to?

I'm a hiphop producer from London, and obviously a huge fan of Lost. Its a bit of a love/hate thing as its made me cynical of all other TV shows (Heroes being one of the most overrated poorly written shows i've seen). Never been into much big american TV drama or Sci-fi, more into british comedy, but Lost has been amazing, and i really hope it continues that awesomeness in its final season. I'm usually pretty good at predicting the end of a story which can annoy people around me, but this show is so intricately constructed, even in its 2nd to last season, i still don't have a clue. I'm trying my best though.

  1. Yeah I wondered that too! He couldn’t kill Widmore that night but then he did in the last episode. I agree that Ben has a hidden plan, the innocent helpless Ben always seemed like an act to me.

  2. Oooohhh… very good. Figured he had a plan (he always has a plan) when he shot Widmore … even wondered if Widmore/he had a plan and Widmore’s not dead, but you’re right, if Jacob told Widmore back in the USA and Ben’s best-buds w/Mrs. Hawking, it surely follows he may be in on a plan. As mentioned, maybe he didn’t kill Widmore OR maybe he couldn’t/wasn’t to until Jacob died. It’s like, when he told Locke when he left the island he couldn’t get back, but after a good butt-beatin’ by Desmond he just waltzes on the 316. (and, it’s the same butt-beatin’ he remembers when Desmond’s beatin’ him in Sidewaysville … coincidence or not, Ben hadn’t had a good beating in a loooong time. Ahhhh … felt like a Lost episode.)
