Polar Bears
I know this theory is pretty much Debunked, but I’m gonna put it out there anyways.
I know most people believe that Dharma brought the Polar Bears to the Island. But What if they were on the Island before Dharma. What if Polar Bears were there from the last time that someone moved the island, What if it was in a cold place before, and the Bears moved with the Island.
I know it doesn’t make much sense, but i thought i would say it anyways.
TheSwanStation, I’m not certain it has been debunked, officially.
One of the things Dharma was researching, was acclimatizing and deterritorialization of the polar bears. This would indicate they were researching them for a reason.
I wouldn’t rule it out. They had to get there somehow!
Nice thoughts!
yeah, i must say, i have not heard this debunked at all, if so, my mistake. But at this point i would say, i think that the bears were kind of the ‘lead up’ point to finding out about Dharma/experimentation on island. But you know the saying..anything is possible on lost
I think it is possible that the bears were already there and then captured and used for experiments…….why bring in a polar bear why not any other animal that would be a lot easier?
Lets look at what we know: Ben has said that whoever turns the wheel to move the island is banished from the island, the wheel is hard to move and located in a very cold environment, the bears were being trained to complete simple tasks, Charlotte found a polar bear skeleton with a Dharma tag in the desert before coming to the island, after Ben turned the wheel he wound up in the desert. It seems pretty clear to me that the Dharma Initiative (regardless of what they claim) brought the polar bears to the island to train them to turn the wheel so that they can move the island without having one of their own getting banished. They chose polar bears because they are easy to train, strong enough to turn the wheel, and able to withstand the frigid temperatures in the cavern where the wheel is. This must have happened at least once before to explain the bear skeleton Charlotte finds.
very good points darko85!! I am not sure Ben is really banned from the island though….perhaps he only stated so to serve his purposes…..he is a liar.
Ben could be lying. But to me it seems to fit with the theme of the island requiring “sacrifices”. It also may explain Windmore’s desire to find the island, perhaps in the past he was forced (or volunteered) to turn the wheel and is desperately trying to get back. Also I don’t see what Ben would gain from lying to Locke about that. (If I remember correctly he was the only one who Ben told about the banishment.)
what was said exactly in that scene? Didn’t Ben say once you move the island you can never go back?
I do like the idea that this is why Widmore is trying to get back
hmmm…..need to think
I think the line was “the one that moves the island can never go back” and actually, if Ben was the one who tricked/forced Windmore to turn the wheel it would really explain not only Windmore’s desire for the island but his hatred for its inhabitants and Ben in particular. Maybe after the Purge, Ben became Richard’s new lieutenant, replacing Windmore, which led to jealousy and eventually Windmore trying (and failing) to take down Ben. Though, knowing Ben its equally likely that he engineered Windmore’s downfall in order to replace him.
Yes I can’t wait to see more of the history between Ben and Widmore!!
The answer seems to lie within the Temple. That holds the key to returning to the island. And if someone that doesn’t know that secret were to turn the wheel they would be gone forever. Can’t wait for that part of the story to unfold.
Yeah, no matter how great the theory is, it all comes down to getting more info about the Temple, and the backstories for Ben, Windmore and/or Richard, and I think those are definitly coming later this season. I’ve been very impressed with the plot this season, its nice to actually have enough information to make some more educated guesses.
Don’t you find you have the most theories this season? Probably because their throwing nore at you while making sense of past scenarios.
Definitly, now that the writers dont have to worry about the show running indefinitatly they are actually starting to answer questions. Though, in true Lost fashion each answer raises more questions lol.
I heard that Mathew Fox is the only actor to know the outcome……has anyone heard this also or can verify?
It’s true jack is the only one who knows the outcome, however it is unclear if he had known from the beginning or when they renegotiated that he demanded to know where this crazy thing was going. also great call Darko85 on the polar bears. sometimes I wonder if the lost writers creep onto boards like this just to fill holes in there stories. LOL
Are you implying that I’m a Lost writer lost freak? lol…I’d say I wasn’t but wouldn’t that be exactly what a sneaky Lost writer would say? 😉 Seriously though, great ep last night, though I did see the whole Faraday’s mom being the woman in the church coming. And I liked the back story for Danielle’s team. Perhaps the smoke monster protects the temple by messing with the minds of the “good” people, turning them into True Others like Richard? Also, has anyone here ever read “At The Mountains of Madness” by H.P. Lovecraft? The idea of a monster left behind in an ancient society’s ruins is right out of that book.
They did experiments on the Polar Bears, but they also experimented on Whales. Remember when Micheal made the raft and it showed a fast clip underwater of a whale swimming by, and it had the darma logo on it’s tale? It seems more like the polar bear, like the whale, like all the other animals they studdied were already there. What other animals do we know that they studdied? Boars?
Actually is was a shark in the water.
