  1. Correction (or precision) Horace was leader from 1974 to 1977.

He was also (seemingly) leader at the time of Ben’s arrival. The Lost timeline I found on the net dates that to 1976-1977 (!)

Is it conceivable that he was in charge at the begining and was replaced by a less benign leader later on (say that irrascible p**ck Pierre Chang?) or that as the community grew he lost a certain measure of control over the Initiative?

  2. ‘nother point. We only see the statue from the back (drat!) so it is hard to tell what features it has. At least we know the whole thing was built, and not just the foot. (You never know with these old civilizations. The Easter island statues are just a bunch of giant heads sticking out of the ground, right?

  3. 3rd point. His name is Paul and I do not think he is ever mentioned anywhere else before or after. He certainly was not in the Man Behind The Curtain episode. From screen shots people have put together a pretty complete list of the characters seen in that episode.

  4. Hey SwanStation, did you happen to notice if Sawyer is wearing a Dharma patch and weather it has the Arrow logo on it? I have to rewind my tape and check it out later.

  5. I’m postitive that I saw it before. And it’s diving me crazy because I’m so close to remebering it. But I’m sure one of the survivors wore it

  6. I guess in season 2 when Sawyer said ‘There’s a new sheriff in town’ he had NO IDEA that he was prophesizing his fate, huh?

A star. And he became HEAD OF SECURITY. Like that B*tch Isabel who tries Juliet in season 3…

  7. Haha totally. Horace must have been wrong, it seems Sawyer is definetly Dharma material. He rises to the top fast!! Head of Security !! Good job Sawyer!!

  8. I was laughing out loud when Sawyer commented on Richard’s eye makeup. And yes a survivor had the cross but I can’t remember which one

  9. Interesting. In 1977 we see Sawyer, Jin and Juliet. We see Miles (briefly)but we never get to see Daniel. Do you think he goes off the reservation and joins the winning side (Richard’s) because he cannot bear to be near young Charlotte? Or maybe he goes beserk and Horace exiles him?

  10. … And Horace (that dog!) everybody assumed he was with Olivia from The Man Behin The Curtain, be he was with Amy before that. So who is Olivia in all this?

I am going to take a wild guess. If the baby is born in 1977 and Annie is 11 years old in 1988 when she gives the doll to young Ben, and the Purge happens in 1992, she would be 15 and he could be say, 18 or 19 in the scene with Roger in the Van… Would that make sense? Is Michael Emmerson playing a 19 or by pushing it a 20 year old in ‘The Man Behind The Curtain’?

Does any of that make sense?

  11. I -think- back in Season 1, Boone wore a t-shirt that had that very same cross symbol on it. Isn’t that the Egyptian Ankh? Symbol of eternal life?

Side note. Did the back of the statue look like an Egyptian God to anyone else? IMO, the ears on the statue stuck up a little. Reminded me of Anubis, god of death and the underworld, who had the body of a man but the head of a jackal.

  12. The cross is the Ansata or Ankh cross (or crux ansata) or the Egyptian cross… (I just looked it up) It was later adopted by the Coptic church and by early christians.

Parts of the cross are thought to have originally had fertility meanings.

The entire Egyptian symbol is also the key to unlock the hidden mysteries in the kingdom of the dead. Also it represents the tree of life, with trunk and foliage.

I hope this helps. (God I love the internet sometimes!)

  13. Faraday is with Dharma, we see that in the first episode this season.

So it also appears the theories around why mom can’t survive a baby’s birth was due to the time loop theory after all. Basically baby and mom can’t exist in the past – paradox.

Other than the full statue, which could have been built 2000 to 12000 years ago (maybe that’s when Richard is from) and the kick a$$ Richard attitude, the show was not very intriguing and did not provide anything new from what we’ve already discussed over the last week. A good filler but now we have to wait 2 weeks for another new episode.

  14. Ive been trying to find a good picture of the statue as we saw it full but I can’t… but I think it looks like the Egyptian god Anubis. He protected the dead and helped bring them to the afterlife.

  15. I’m pretty sure the last time we saw the necklace was when Locke got the map out of Horace’s pocket; it was around Horace’s neck. I could be wrong, but I’d be willing to bet

  16. I’m pretty sure it’s Anubis. I just submitted a theory about it and im waiting on it to come up. Go to lostpedia and they have the image from tonight’s episode. He has the pointy ears and everything. Also, Horace always has this huge headdress on.

  17. Actually I take that back, there is a hi-res image and it looks like he is wearing that big headdress thing… but whats with the pointy ears.

  18. I just posted a theory on Horus with some links to an image from Egyptian times. Take a look. Either god would be agreeable. Both are opposites of each other and knowing the writers of lost and duality of the show they probably want us to decide in the end and may never tell us.

  19. There is a nice poetry to Sawyer (LaFleur of the title) picking up a flower, a SUN flower for his lady love Juliet.

Oh the stuff Kate missed out on !

  20. The Arrow:
Horace puts it on a war alert (‘status one’) when he hears about the Hostiles. He also talks about heavy armaments.

In the first episode of season one Chang is recording an orientation video for the Arrow. The purpose of the station is defined as infiltration and study in order to develop defensive strategies against the hostiles.

Which comes first? Horace works at the Arrow whereas the security teams have a star logo. Does anyone else see any ambiguity there?

  21. Another great moment in the episode when Richard tells Horace ‘Your sonic fence may keep other things out but not us’.

Either that is news to Horace or it really was not built to keep the Hostiles out.

    Any ideas out there?

  22. Any chance the necklace you’re trying to remember is the one Claire was wearing in season one? It was similar I think but not the same… it was a Chinese symbol I think…

  23. New Station (The Star?)

The two Dharma guys working security who spot Horace blowing up trees (so very un-Dharma of him!) are in a monitoring station.

The station seems to be smack dab in the middle of the barracks. They just step outside and run over to LaFleur’s house across the compound.

Its purpose seems to be to monitor the perimeter cameras and the sonic fence.

No sign of this station later. Perhaps the space was needed for living quarters?

  24. We finally see that Dharma has other vehicles (a jeep!).

We also see the motor pool where Juliet works. No heavy bull-dozers or cranes though. We see the submarine but no other boats moored to the dock. This suggests the kind of secrecy that forbids movement of heavy cargo onto the island. Of course in 1974 and prior to that I assume there were no spy satellites to see what Dharma was doing.

  25. I think the star just makes them security and not tied to any station. And we have seen a monitoring station like this on at the Hydra station (where Ben got Jack to see Kate and Sawyer…).

Oh, and I have a theory about Amy’s kid. It’s a boy born in 1977 just like me! I’m going to have a talk with my mother tonight…

  26. Wonder if those security types were eating the ‘special’ brownies or just regular brownies.

It must have really burned Sawyer’s ass to see how lax security was in 1974 !

  27. why is horace allowed to be there with dharma?? they are called hostiles yet richard seems very hospitable and understanding. why would the hostiles allow dharma to be there (richard says the fence doesnt keep them out and we know they are badass and can kill well) maybe richard sees worth in some things dharma is doing?

  28. Trusting hippies is a common mistake… they just seem so harmless! I think Richard has learned his lesson and will never trust a hippy again.

  29. i need a job. how about with the di, too bad they stopped recruiting… sawyer would prob kill me though for slackin off with rosie. shes bangin.

  30. Amy said there was a truce…A war happens before the truce, so Richard(Hostiles) did not let them be there, probably they couldn’t defeat them so they accepted a truce.

  31. The baby is definitely not ethan or anyone of the others, remember that ben alongside the others wiped out every single living member of DI on the island, so maby Amy was outside of the island with the baby when this happend and just never came back, because the usual 2 weeks sub was not going to leave the island now that Ben is in charge, so it has to be someone from the oceanic 815…

  32. Amy’s Baby is Important. This is a part of an interview with the actress who plays here.

“TVGuide.com: Might Amy be giving birth to someone… “special”?
Aylesworth: I will say yes, it’s a special person. And you eventually find out who

  33. Ok, I am not sure where we saw the cross before, but I have posted a theory regarding it in “The statue and the cross”. Im trying to dig up more now, but thats a start to find some answers on it.

  34. Hmmm Desmond as Amy’s Baby. It would make sense, it could be the reason he is so special. Maybe the reason the rules don’t apply?

  35. This is my first post ever but I m being dragged into the lost thing and I am curoius about the original island mythology more and more. If you look at the image of the statue it is holding something in its hands. it looks to me like the ankh. I believe the whole thing is going to be linked to ancient civilisations and Richard has been a part of this. Where Jacob fits in I do not know but the statue is intriguing but perhaps a red herring we will never be given the full history of givn that there are only 24 episodes left.
