Horace, babies, Ben & Juliette

OK, there’s this whole baby-birthin’ issue on the island. The only baby we know was conceived/born on the island was Horace’s (though no one looked too surprised at the time) – and the begining of that episode had him helping Other’s leader, ole benny boy be born.

Now, Horace sounds like the Egyptian god Horus, and his wife/mother is Isis – the goddess of fertility and the son/brother of Osiris – the Lord of the Dead/Resurrection.

Another Horus link to babies is w/Tawaret – the goddess who protects pregnant women/childbirth. She was sleepin’ with Horus’ enemy, Set – the god of the chaos/darkness/desert (he’s delicious) – so … how about if Ben sees himself as Horus’ enemy (purge) and makes a claim to Juliette (human manifestation of the woman/childbirth protector) who ‘looks just like her’ ‘cuz she’s the face on the statue (before the incident knocked her off her feet and caused all that no-baby stuff).

Oh, and there’s some kind of prophesy tied in somewhere.

  1. Ethan, Arron and Alex were all born on the island, albeit at different times. Ji Yeun was concieved but not born on the island… and Alex and Arron were born but not conceived on the island. Ethan is the only baby we know of both conceived AND born on the island, which seems to be the major malfunction according to Julia… “i think its something that happens at conception”

  2. or maybe its as simple as the jughead being buried under the living quarters of dharma? don’t all things nuclear negatively affect the mind, body etc.? no one knows its buried under there…other then eloise and richard…

  3. Maybe the pregnancy problem starts to happen after the incident on the Island.

Either the containment of the energy by the Swan station or by side-effects of a H-Bomb being detonated on the island to reverse that energy.

  4. Amy didn’t die in the 2nd trimester, so Ethan is not the exception, and that’s why no one was freaked out when she went into labor on-island. It’s gotta’ have something to do w/the incident or the purge or the Others (Daniel’s the only known born to them and their older camps seem to be kidless.)

Carl had to come from somewhere, too.

Sun conceived on the island – so Juliette’s wrong or ‘something has changed’ … then she just dumps her kid off somewhere while she goes on vacation.

  5. I think that Amy was able to have Ethan because she is not an other. I believe that it’s not a fertility problem with the entire island, only with the others. I think that is why they took the children when flight 815 went down. Amy was the first non-other who we have seen going into labor and successfully having the child.

  6. I always thought the pregnancy problem was in some way related to Ben… because his mom died during labour that somehow when he came to power he affected the pregnancies (obviously in some unexplainable way). Just like the Walt and polar bears comic connection…
