Why some people skip, and some people don’t.

Ok like always i will start by apologizing to anyone who posted this before. I didn’t know (consciously at least). ok… so my theory is when 815 crashes, those who crashed get ever so slightly dislodged from time. as in not free of time and space, but rather get sent into the future or past ever so slightly. when ben turns the wheel, the only people who skip are the people who are not in their fully “correct” times. that is why when they skip, they are the only ones that continue to skip….

the others are the only people who know how to get to and from the island without a time displacement effect. everyone else has calculated bearings that take you through the edge of the bubble and affect your place in time.

please rip this apart, i will give you a starting point. Juliette. she skips and was an other. unless the mark she was given was a mark of displacement (which sounds unlikely to me to).

maybe reausseau would have skipped if she survived. who knows? love to hear your thoughts.

I rarely get into tv shows, but as you know lost is something else. I am a daytime, weekday theorist. I usually don't check in on weekends or nights. Helps me get through the workday. favorite characters: eko (duh), desmond, miles, sayid.

  1. Dan called those who skipped variables. Maybe the island is the constant, and those who did not skip are part of the island, therefore part of the constant, therefore not skipping (does that make sense? I am tired). So only the variables change, not the constant (hence the names constant and variable).

  2. The problem here is… what about the people who didn’t skip, or people who did but are others?

    Juliet skipped, shes an Other.
Dan, Miles and Charlotte skipped, where not on 815.
Future John and Sun don’t skip while Hurley, Jake, Kate and Sayid do.

  3. well i am solely talking about the skipping when ben turned the wheel. my argument is that the others know how to get to and from the island without going through the edge of the snowglobe and affecting their time orientation, while faraday was close but not perfect and 815ers came in at a random angle.

    juliette is my hole.

the people on 316 skipped because they were already temporaly displaced, however maybe sun’s baby solved her displacement and locke was dead till he landed.

  4. Juliet never really was an other. They brought her over to do some research WITH them. She was never one of them. Remember Ben was taken to the temple to become an other? As far as we know, Juliet was never taken there. Therefore, it could be considered that she only spent time with them, like Jack did that time.

  5. Hi ekolocation, this was addressed earlier on, and I believe it was also talked about in one of the Podcasts.

If recollection serves me, somebody did mention Juliette’s mark, and I suppose that is a possibility. But no evidence to support one way or the other.

What was said about the ‘flashing’ was, that ‘the others’ were living on ‘the island’ in their present, and therefore didn’t ‘flash’. It was only ‘the losties’ who were affected by the ‘flashing’.

That may not be a satisfying answer, but it’s all I can recall of what was provided in way of an answer.

  6. that seems to be somewhat on the lines of my thinking… except that ben doesnt skip to the 70s from 316 after skipping a couple months after pushing the wheel.
