Dirty Others
I’ve been rewatching random episodes, and I watched the one where the tailies are taking Michael, Jin and Sawyer back to the beach. Michael runs away, while eko and jin go after him. Eko hears the others coming, and hides with jin in a bush. You see the others (along with one of the kidnapped children) walking through the forest barefoot, covered in dirt, with old raggedy clothing on.
We later find out that the other’s raggedy appearance was a scam to trick the losties, but this instance seems different. They did not know they were being watched. Any thoughts on this? Is this connected to Richard looking raggedy in the forest when he first meets ben?
probably didnt change out of their costumes yet. Regular clothes were back at the barrcks.

I think you may be onto something eko. Are you perhaps suggesting that the dirty Others (Dothers) are a consequence of them going through an alternative timeline than the clean Others (Cothers)?
i do not ascribe to the multiple time line theory. either there are 2 groups of others, or something else i can’t quite put my finger on. Also, why would they have the kids with them so close to where the survivors can see them. its really fishy.
i think there are two groups of others. or else, when jack is at the barracks with everyone waiting for his sub ride, why wouldn’t cindy and the kids have been around, or anyone else that was taken from the tail section?
i think there is a group at the temple, led by ben through richard, and there is a group in the barracks, led directly by ben… this would also explain why we don’t see richard on hydra island or in the barracks at all during that time…
i agree. perhaps there was a split when ben decided to live in the barracks with nice clothes and technology and some of the original others wanted to live more naturally, without technology.
i was watching an interview with Richard and a younger Widmore and they stated the others dont wear shoes.. so Im guessing like you said above some stay with Ben (possibly recruits such as Juliet) and the originals stay with Richard. Maybe because the houses and whatnot were built by the Dharma and the others are anti-dharma.
Or maybe im completely off and theres some huge hidden meaning behind it all.
maybe the others just wore ragedy clothes whenever they entered the jungle. They couldn’t possibly know for sure that nobody would see them so they needed to maintain the illusion.
Also, they probably anticipated Michael would go to search for Walt too.

At the end of season four there were dirty shoeless others.
yes. and all of these others we have never seen before. what happened to all the clean, dharmaville others?
