Something has occured to me that could disprove Faradays belief that “What happened, happened”, if Iam correct.

whats more likely is that they wiped out the dharma people and took the kids and raised them as there own.we have already seen them do this with the kids from flight 815

To me, Ethan being Amy’s baby proves that the ‘Whatever happened, happened’ theory is true.
But I actually like this theory. It’s fun, although I don’t think it’s very plausible. But that’s because I like the one, unique, simple timeline notion better 🙂
If details like this of Ethan’s birth relate to different timelines, I guess it would get too confusing.
But we are told that Ethan’s special now. And who’s to say that he wasn’t raised by the hostiles? We still don’t know what they were planning to do with Amy. We know that at least one Dharma kid turned his back on Dharma. Maybe Ethan did, too. Maybe Amy was a spy. Endless possibilities that would be simpler for my mind to process. 🙂
ethan will be somewhat raised by the hostiles as he was not killed in the purge, the hostiles tend to take to children for some reason. remember, in a closed loop timeline, small things can change but in the end the big things happen as the happen.
I don’t understand how a closed time loop ensures that small things can be changed but the major events will happen no matter what. I don’t understand how this works even without a closed time loop.
Who exactly decides what is minor and what is major? Everything is significant. Is it just going to be that if it’s important to the plot it’s major? I think the writers have a little more vision than that.
As for Ethan being violent I don’t think that proves anything. Maybe he came over to the Hostiles before the purge and was brain washed. Maybe he was taken against his will and brain washed. Maybe he was taken by the monster like Danielle’s crew and was changed after that. There are many less complicated theories explaining how Ethan could have become an Other than this.

I think we are all spending too much time on Ethan…I really don’t think he is the key to any of it.
Ethan isn’t the key to much, I agree. My comment on little things being changeable was directed at username. I also think that the story of how Ethan becomes an Other will be much more simple than this.

damuse09, I really like the analogy you have used in your theory about Ethan.
How Ethan makes it over to ‘the others’ camp is, in itself a mystery, considering how young he would have been when all of the chaos ensued. As we know, most of the Dharma children, likely left ‘the island’, because none of them appear to have grown up on ‘the island’ like Ethan did.
Change, does not have to represent anything MAJOR. The most subtle of changes can bring about very different results, and unexpected outcomes.
The ‘Butterfly Effect’ is representative of this.
There are 20 different theories about the consequences of time travel. And then their is fiction…..
My theory with this is when the purge actually takes effect Ethan is still a child therefore the ‘Others’ wouldn’t kill him. Before the purge happens theres no doubt in my mind that the kids are abducted and kept safe. Following this they are then brought up by the ‘Others’ and newly stated leader Ben.

Just as an FYI – the purge happens at 4 P.M. on December 19, 1992. Ethan was born in 1977. that would make him about 15. Ben has made it known that not all Dharma were killed in the purge and that some had defected. Ethan being one of them.
Hey damuse09 us blues gotta stick together so I will just say this. My thinking is that part of the original DI are the others. After the PURGE Ethan turned other.
