Does anyone else think that Ben does remember the Losties?

Although it’s totally possible he doesn’t, I don’t understand why everyone is trying to come up with theories on how Ben lost his memory of them being in Dharma. For several reasons:

1) Based on the way he’s acted throughout the entire series, would Ben Linus really start freaking out and saying that he remembers them when he meets them? Not only would he know the Losties wouldn’t believe him but Ben also has a history of keeping his composure and his cover.

2) Wouldn’t it make sense that Ben would remember? It appears to me that Ben knows a hell of a lot of information that is yet to be revealed. Knowing the way the island works when it comes to time travel, would he really be all that surprised to see someone from the past?

  1. This was exactly my thought as it was happening. Ben has always been out for his own best interest, and acts very childlike in most cases when he loses his composure. I think, true to Ben nature, he is totally lying and does remember the losties. Maybe he’s lying because he knows how they get out of 1977 before the purge?

  2. If he didnt remember, wouldnt someone tell the leader of the others what is going on at least…like Richard, or another other…that sounds weird to say…
Unless this is part of his journey, ala John Locke and his walkabout.
He knows something speacial is happening, just doesnt know for sure what…
    Good question…

  3. I agree with you I think he remembers them. Maybe not throughout the entire series but someone on this site mentioned how when he woke up in that bed with John sitting next to him, maybe he looked so suprised because he woke up with the memory (like desmond)of the losties being in dharma and being cured in the temple as a child.

When he looked at the picture of kate, jack and hurley in the DI in ’77, Sun was like “you didn’t know about this”

he kind of paused, i guess that is debateable, but he was like “no i had no idea” and i just did not really believe him.

So either he always knew they were in the DI or he just woke up with the memory, IMO. Of course he may have never know because it never really happened, but according to miles it has, i am confusing myself with the time travel blaaa,,

****Highbrow if you’re reading this, remember we were talking about time travel and i compared it to back to the future, i was laughing my ass off when hurley did the same thing and it reminded me of you!

anyway my question is what the hell happened to like rose, bernard, etc… Sawyer did not care that they were like living in the jungle for 3 years while he was playing house in the DI.

and i don’t think we saw the entire marina scene, ben does call jack from the marina, i think he is going to get out of that water and shoot penny, thats why he is so sorry to desmond. Idk, just a guess!

  4. I think Sawyer did care. I think that they were searching all the vectors not only in the hopes of finding Locke, but in the hopes of finding anyone. I don’t think that if Jin had found Bernard and Rose that he would have said…..sorry guys, we aren’t really looking for you, good luck.

  5. AES that is harsh lol, are you saying that you think Adam & Eve from season 1 is Rose & Bernard?

Hurleybird you’re right, he did say he has been searching for “his people” I guess that includes Rose, Bernard, Claire, etc.

    But where have they been?

And does everyone think that in the time period of Ben,Locke,Sun, that all of others are inside the temple. Ben did tell them all to go there at the end of season4.

    So many questions.

  6. jessicab5128, the reason people are theorizing about whether or not Ben remembers ‘the losties’ from Dharma was based upon what Richard Alpert told Sawyer & Kate.

He said that he would cure Ben and he would have no memory of events. I think this has misled some people. In addition, to the many time travel debates of who remembers what!

I agree with you. Ben does have memory. Some of it is likely direct recall, and some may have been learned by him by other means and sources. The one thing about Ben is, he is very resourceful, and leaves nothing to chance.

  7. Every time I have hoped for the writers to go back and revisit a scene to add the missing touches they have let me down.

I think that Penny is safe. What we saw is what we get. Desmond is wounded but Penny is safe. The gun is lost at the bottom of the marina and Ben crawled out of the water, had a good cry and phoned Jack.

  8. The simplest explanation to Ben’s memory loss has already been given by the writers. Richard brought him to the temple and the island erased any memories that might have caused temporal loops, etc.

Next episode in which Ben returns to the D.I. he will find Lafleur and co. have conveniently disapeared. Where?

My guess is that Sawyer has some sort of escape plan. Some safe place to go to in case they are found out. A place perhaps where Bernard and Rose are hiding out?

  9. All great ideas. I personally think that Bernard and Rose were trapped in another time and Ben does remember everything, including Sayid shooting him… But, since he is such a huge proprietor of “doing what needs to be done” he is very good at hiding his true emotions as to what he knows/ what is happening.

I think he truely is surprised at Locke being alive and his daughter being kiled because they are on a different “timeline”/ following a different set of rules than Ben is on….. Make sense?! 🙂

  10. We do know that Ben’s memory wasn’t completely erased. He remembers his father, the time with the DI an how much he hated it. I think that what Richard was referring to was that he wouldn’t remember the healing process done to him. Otherwise the memory removal would have to be selective (only removing some memories of the DI) and that would just be stupid.

  11. I guess it won’t fit here, but I’ve posted a “theory” covering this: “Locke’s survival, Danielle’s memory and what Ben is really saying..” I can’t really say WHY he remembers but but I do offer some suggestions to WHAT he remembers, and(in my opinion quite plausible reasons as to)why he does/says the cryptic things he does.. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this
