ben = good guy
when ben was ordered to go kill danielle he let danielle live and took her baby as he realised it was the best thing to do for a newborn.
when widmore tells ben to kill the baby he denies and questions widmore’s authority suggesting that “this is not what the island wants”. widmore..from leader became a dictator a tyrrant and abused his power or influence. widmore

Good thought, I def agree that Ben sacrificed Alex for the good of the island.
Maybe he was selfish and scared so he just let his daughter bite the bullet (literally) rather than letting himself be captured.
But he has willingly allowed himself to be captured, beaten and tourted before for the best interest of the island, plus smokey forgave him, so I do think letting Alex die was the right thing for Ben to do.
In the argument of Ben vs Widmore, I think Ben is the good guy, he has good intentions toward the island which is his where his belief and faith lye, giving that up would be to give up his purpose in life.
But when it comes to Ben vs Locke, Locke is the ultimate island guru and has been chosen from birth. Locke just needed to be pointed in the right direction. Locke is in charge now because the island knows he is the best man for the job.
I think the others are all bad guys and the DHARMA initiative are the unsuspected heroes of the piece
dont get me wrong, And i know its just a tv show, but i certainly wouldnt let my daughter die for any thing or anyone (apart from maybe a fag and a coffe in the morning)
shouldnt you be questioning the smoke monsters morals more than anyones???
i also dont think the smoke monster has “forgiven” ben persay, it cant make ben do as it says, but it can manipulate him. ie, when his daughter appeared.
i think the monster in its divine glory,has with ben, overlooked him, and taking john locke as his new apprentice, the smokemonster is a business man, and wants the bet man for the job, and right now that looks like john locke.
what the ‘job’ is i dont know. but yeah.
good bye.

I agree there needs to be a discussion about the intentions of the smoke monster. Maybe there are two monsters. Maybe it has bad intentions. Maybe its the Island vs. the smoke monster.
I believe trying to manipulate and con the ‘new leader’ is a common theme so far. Widmore sees Ben as an up-and-coming leader so he tries to get Ben to murder the baby in front of everyone to sabotage his position. Then, when Ben learns that Locke is the Chosen One, he puts Locke in a position to kill his father, thinking Locke wouldn’t do it. Ben believes this will show the Others that Locke is not who they think he is. But Locke is smart like a fox; he gets ‘James’ to do it for him.
